http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18260914"Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has lost his Supreme Court fight against extradition to Sweden to face accusations of sex offences. The judgement was reached by a majority of five to two, the court's president, Lord Phillips, told the hearing. Mr Assange's lawyers had asked the UK's highest court to block his removal, arguing that a European arrest warrant issued against him was "invalid". But the court ruled the extradition request had been "lawfully made". "

Did I hear it correctly? The judge said if we take the English meaning of lawful institution it means a court or judge however if we take the French meaning it means any official body so we'll use their meaning and rule the extradition is lawful.

Not surprised at this, with any luck, he'll be in solitary in the US, by the end of June

According to the BBC, the judges used a point of law not argued in court to decide their case. A lawyer for Assange jumped up to ask for 14 days to appeal, rather than seven and this was agreed.
As Joshua Rosenberg said, "There's a long way to go".

It'd be interesting to see what information he still has close to his chest that he could release. I imagine more damaging than anything, however interesting this might be.
Of course, he could have nothing at all.

Assange and Wikileaks, like to put themselves forward in the press, as some sort of force for the greater good, seeking out truth and justice that has been hidden from the general public. . . . .Having met him, I can happily state that in my opinion he is a complete and utter sleaze, with similar morals to T.Blair and his sole interest isn't seeking truth, but is actually seeking fame, wealth and riches for J.Assange

Apparently it all hangs on the translation from the original French. Why don't the Swedes just issue another warrant and avoid all this nonsense??

Also, if there is nothing to hide then there is nothing to fear... are we assuming he'll have a fair trial?

In fact screw it, I wanna kill anyone who looks at me cockeyed. Seems reasonable.

So having self interest is not sufficient to require extradition? How odd that you equate that to destroying a country and taking us to war unlawfully.

Currently seeking asylum at the Ecuador embassy in London. Seems to me that if you make a living for yourself the way he has, legging it to Ecuador is a pretty shoddy exit strategy.
