Some of you may know, that I recently put a Fabspeed sports exhaust (cats & back boxes, Fabspeed claim + 35bhp) & a BMC air filter (+5ish bhp?) on my 2001 996TT. (So it should be around 460 bhp @ the moment).

Well today was the first opportunity since fitting them that I had the chance to really open her up – 201 mph on the clocks, 193 mph showing on the Road Pilot GPS speed! - and she still had some left in her. Previous dash clock speed I’ve seen was 196 mph, before the mods.

The exhaust system is quite loud; I wouldn’t want to drive more than 2 or 3 hours before I think I would start to give me a headache! But it sounds awesome! People stop and look when driving through town and on the motorway it burbles along very nicely, do I’m please. It certainly feels a lot quicker to drive, freer to boost.

– This is what a sports car should be like! - IMHO.

It had it’s 36k service the other day, when the workshop manager bought it back, he got out, with a big grin on his face saying “this is mental! It makes other 911 seem tame, even turbos” – well, a sell’s thing maybe, but I was well please.

Gerry

PS can’t wait to get it chipp’d, now where’s DMS’ number…...

I'm delighted for you but all such tales involving specifically quantifiable hoonage do require prefacing with the qualification that might be required as reassurance for any home grown vegans straying hither.

Namely, that you were (a) on a private road or (b) not in Albion.

Pitiful, I know but one has to fight the lettuce munchata with a stick of fully steeled celery these days - they are everywhere.

A very quick car you should take it along to a Vmax run at Bruntingthorpe to show the TT X50 & Gt2 boys how it is done.
That is an exceptional speed without the benefit of a runway.

Well done Gerry; nice one mate.

Perhaps post DMS electronic trickery, you'd like to join us for a bit of Brunty? Two miles of pure unadulterated pedal to the metal. And no bloody killjoys in sight.

Cheers,
Greg

PS - the old profiles looking a bit empty without a pic of your car, old chap...

Yes I must get around to post the pics - I'll sort it this week.

Of course this speed wasn't on the public highway!

When is Brunty?

Gerry,

Do you plan to get it rolling roaded, I'd be very interested in comparing results. Mine made 465bhp and 455ft/lbs with similar mods. However, there is a pinch at the end of the power curve which looks electronic. I wonder if your does the same thing at the same point.

Cheers, Steve, 996TT

That DMS conversion looks awesome, was reading about it in this months Top Gear magazine. Love the way they keep the exhaust system looking standard!

I’ve also kept the exhaust system looking standard.

Steve, I’ll get it dyno’d when I get the ECU done (hopefully a before & after), not sure when, but certainly within the next few months. I’ll keep you posted. – Unless you’re arranging another rollin’ road day soon ??

911 habit, any chance you can tell me the cost of the exhaust? And where you got it from?

Mail me from my profile if you wish.

They are £ 1995.00 +VAT, however they where doing a July special for £ 1795.50, which is what I went for, however, they were out of stock, BUT luckily had a very little used (sub 500 miles) second-hand one, which was £1350! Bargain! +£200 for fitting, which was a balls up +VAT

Design911 use a local garage to do fittings, they, when removing my tail pipes, snapped the old bolts on the clamps and rather than drilling out and re-tapping them, they just drilled a separate small hole in the centre, bottom of the tail pipe and put a aluminium rivet in! This would have vibrated loose eventually. So, I took it upon myself to remove the tail-pipes, drill out the old stainless bolt ends, re-tap and put in some new stainless bolts. – Sorted.

So, I would recommend buying from them, but get a reputable garage to fit them eh!

There website is still advertising the july special, so if you ask them nicely I’m sure they would still do the pipes for £1750 +VAT.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers Gerry.

Just listened to the straight through pipes and they sound great too.

Gerry forgot to mention that I keep hearing stuff on rennlist about a company call upsolute that do a 911 remap/chip solution.

Its cheap which puts me off :-)... but they have an option where you can switch the ecu back to stock.

Has anyone here been to them?

For me the options are
G-force
Stuttgart connection
DMS
upsolute
Im sure there are others..
