I know most people are still trying to be positive, but let's have a thread of sniping and moaning about them? Look at this for starters - the whole idea of the Olympic flame is surely to show case the spectacular and beautiful parts of your country, of which Britain has many.

Australia managed it fine.

That shining beacon of good organisation and orderly administration that is Greece did it.

Even notionally communist China got it right.

Then we have this

Some clinically obese slob in a 100 year old boat being pulled along by the workhouse re-enactment society.

Yes I know the industrial revolution is a major part of our history. but doesn't it just look st? We've pissed all that money away on actually putting people off coming to visit the UK!

I'm surprised it didn't sink.

Is the torch relay going to start a new fashion for shellsuits on fat chavs I wonder?

It's a world heritage sight why they gave her the flame is beyond me! Earlier it had been to the top of Snowdon.

Shes lighter than that other woman pictured carrying it- links are somewhere around.
Should we point out to the OP that holding Greece up to be a good example might backfire slightly using that image...of the 2012 games, granted in Greece but organised by the UK.

OP - every thread on PH about the olympics is solely for the purpose of berating it. With the possible exception of threads on the sports subforum.

I hope it goes great biggrin

If you look at the background stories they all seem to be people who do a lot for their community. This woman is a scout leader so whilst not amazing, she does something worthwhile for free.

Anyway, some more positive pics:

And one I know PH will love:

Is this topic purely based on the opinion that only attractive, athletic people run with the torch?

That was the original idea, but then it would be about 6 people just taking turns all over the country.

I know it goes the grain of PH cynicism, but when I went to see the torch pass through my neighbouring town last week the place was absolutely rammed. I had never seen it so busy - by a very long way - and the general vibe and atmosphere was really positive.

Not only that, but it's one particularly noticeable area of crapness so far.

You could also moan about the Lisa Simpson giving a blowjob logo

Or these banal and slightly sinister mascots

I don't really like the Olympics where ever they are, and Britain seems intent on doing everything as badly as possible, so I find plenty to complain about in hosting the games in the UK, and pissing away billions of pounds to do so.

True enough. But I have paid tax in the UK and am a British citizen so some of my previously paid taxes were spent on the bid and the preparations. More importantly my pride and belief in the essential decency of Britain is further eroded as I watch the country sink into failure.

So you think we should become a quiet little backwater of the EU, with no ambition on the world stage?

Is it just the UK where most of the torch carrying seems to be someone sitting on/in a vehicle?

I thought the idea of the olumpucs was to showcase personal fitness and suchlike.

Not that I'm remotely interested in the total waste of time and money.

I think its great ordinary people are getting a go. Probably will not be around in most peoples life times again, I missed the run past my house but the turn out was great and the locals were cheering it on.

You actually sound disappointed. Really? Did they drive past on a milk float or something this time?

This is the biggest stain on the olympic landscape IMO.

WTF were they thinking?
