I have a Continental R which started to develop wind noise on the o/s door. I took it to my local specialist who replaced the door seal for a casual £500. When the car came back the seal was "puckered up" and caused more noise. The specialist then told me that the seal was RR old stock and that it had been creased in the packet but would smooth itself out in time. It hasn't done so and now he is telling me that the door seal does not affect wind noise. Has anyone any experience of this sort of problem and any advice as my confidence in the specialist is shrinking rapidly.

All I know on this subject is that when I told my RR/Bentley specialist that doors on my 97 Turbo R neded a rather firm heave to shut, he said that my car being a later Turbo R had more substantial seals than on earlier cars to reduce wind noise.

Many thanks for your comment. Mine is an earlier car which have a different seal to combat wind noise which they do suffer from more. Not like a Marcos though!

Sounds to me like you're being brushed off by your specialist, I suggest you return to them and ask for the original parts invoice from the supplying dealer, assuming it is an original Crewe supplied item then it will be covered by a two year warranty and should be replaced and fitted FOC, the fact that it has been poorly stored is hardly your fault is it? If it's old/bankrupt/written off/second hand stock then £500 is a bit choice and he's having you at it. If you have to and it is a genuine dealer supplied item then contact customer services at the factory on 01270 255155, if it is not ask for your old seal to be fitted back on and your money back and take it to somebody who's competent.

Interesting that he replaced the seal then said it doesn't affect wind noise!!

I'd say a trip to the gallows for him!

And 500 quid at that!!
