Another beautiful morning. Four times this week, first time I've managed that.
Today's baffling event: a huge woman in the passenger seat of a Pug 206 (thought she might overflow at one point) bellowing at me "learn to ride a bike!" as she overtook. While I was riding my bike. Incidentally I hadn't passed her at any point, so who knows what that was about...
Anyone know how long it takes for Street View images to turn up online? I saw one of the cars this morning...

I used to ride a lot near Saffron Walden/Thaxted and was once verbally abused by a Jabba the Hutt lookey-likey. She leaned out of the window of the battered green Pug into which she'd been poured, and just hurled expletives and obscenities at me for no reason whatsoever. The abuse was something to do with 'cyclists' "taking up the whole road". Ironically she was abusing me from a car which was well over into the opposing lane, and it remained over that side unhindered by oncoming traffic for some time, and the skinny vest-wearing oaf driving the car hadn't had to wait AT ALL to perform his overtake.
Maybe she's the same one you saw? Maybe she's so fat that the poor Pug's performance is so badly compromised that it takes too long to overtake even the slowest cyclist?
Last night was fun was running late , set off down the car park and POP
Tyre had puncture, the stty Aldi stick on pad I'd put on the day before had given way, all I had was a 25c inner tube for a 32c tyre. Stuck it on , then set off and the gear cable was struggling, so I had the choice of 3 gears all the way home!!!
And a bloody headwind!!
Still nice enough ride home in the end

I'd not worry about that - I only carry a 26" tube in my MTB pack it'll work okay in both my 26er and the 29er and is lighter HereBeMonsters said:
I keep getting people overtaking me wrong. Shaking my fist at them doesn't seem to help!
Rather than:
They're almost hitting me, then drifting out wide, more like:
Happens especially on NSL roads.
Top diagramming. Award yourself a double breakfast.Rather than:

Left home at 5.15 yesterday morning. New PB of 33 mins for the inward trip, 28kph average. Amazing how much faster you are when there's no traffic

Definately faster in the holiday traffic. 21.8mph ave for me yesterday on the way in. Left home at 5.15 yesterday morning. New PB of 33 mins for the inward trip, 28kph average. Amazing how much faster you are when there's no traffic
I was told in IAM it should be like this:
Gives you good vision before you pass, plenty of space to the overtakee even if you misjudge your speed, and as your moving back to the left as you pass them it minimises your 'time in danger'. Agree that not many people take either of these approaches though!
My biggest bugbear is indicating. When I'm in the car I've noticed that no one indicates to pass a cyclist. Not a problem for a single car, but when there are a few in a line the second car can't see the bike until the first car moves, so has to react quickly. The third car sees them even later and so has to make an even more violent lunge to pass and so on. Hopefully nothing comes the other way, as a few cars down the line it may be too late to pull up behind the bike if there is.
