Moved office recently and no longer have a guaranteed space for my bike. For the last 7 years I've been commuting on a Giant Bowery (budget single speed) but have just bought a Brompton (3 speed, raw lacquer, dynamo lights etc).
Very impressed with the Brompton - perfect for short journeys and takes less time to fold and pick up than it takes to lock up a regular bike.
Only downside is slower cyclists pushing in front when waiting at lights because you're on a noddy bike.

I've managed to cycle in every day in the three weeks since I came back from holiday. Getting noticably faster, and the main beam light is getting noticably dimmer. Must get new batteries tomorrow.

Tonight was the first night of heavy rain and all the prep I put in to getting the bike and clothes right worked perfectly.

However my disc brakes are making some very loud moans when I braked. Must have a look at them in the morning.

Hmmm, I'll probably call in at the LBS on the way home, as they fitted the cable last weekend.
In that case it's probably bedded in and just needs adjusting a bit.
The gears seemed to better on the way home, although I wussed out on taking the long way home due to the crappy weather.

First commute for weeks this morning but hoping for a full house this week - come frost or rain or shine!

Lovely still, dry chilly morning today.

Checked the radar on the weather app this afternoon and saw a storm coming in, so gave myself a 'working from home' early mark. Cycling towards a very heavy storm into the lightning, made it with 5 mins to spare before the deluge.

Happy days.

doubled up on jerseys because it was cold. Noticed for the first time just how many drain covers there are on my route in, its only when they have a coating of ice do they become more apparent...

I wore a long sleeve base layer and the new PH Winter top and if anything was slightly too hot! I am a Northerner wink

No frost here this morning though.

First properly cold morning. Had a flat on my commuter last week so got the mtb out to commute on - love tooling around with fat tyres and disc brakes so haven't put it away again smile

Nearly lost it on some black ice this morning. Caught it though which was lucky.

Extra jersey under my waterproof, winter gloves. Still warm enough for shorts though. The only bit of me that was cold was my face. Might have to grow a beard.

tempted to start riding to work

no parking at work for my car, but secure spot for a bike or scooter, and the bus is £13 a week

its only 4 miles and all flat city roads

thinking purpose built commuter bike with stuff like mud guard fitted as standard

looking to spend £250 to £350.

suggestions ?

I'd be tempted to get a second hand clunker for the job, once you're used to cycling four miles is nothing and if you're still doing it after winter you can treat yourself to an upgrade smile

If anyone finds a frozen shrivelled cock out there it's probably mine.

In other news, the fields smell of cabbage.

Great ride in this morning cool

At 6:00 it was pissing down, by the time I left at 06:30 the rain had stopped and it didn't start raining again until I was in the office with a nice hot cup of tea and a bowl of cereal.

Great timing smile

Trialled my new 'winter' bib tights on a ride at 10 o clock last night, frost was forming on all the cars as I was out, my snot froze, when I got home I knew what it was to be a woman. Wore them on the ride in this morning, with pants and MTB shorts over, got to work a man, much better.

Still got two more months of it getting colder, time to nut up or shut up.

First week this year where I haven't cycled at all! Been taking it easy due to an injury/infection

Was tempted to ride in today , but was put off by the heavy rain later, was looking forward to the cold and frozen fields

In the end I bailed at last minute to spend time with daughter, glad I did it started pissing it down, when it was on 0.5 degrees and torrential rain that was standing on the roads. Bit of a horrendous and slippery drive in, wouldn't have fancied it on my road bikes, as the mTB is being repaired

Staying closer to work this week so thought I'd bring the bike with me.

Normal Routine:
Up at 5.
Leave at 5:45
Arrive at work at 7:45
Breakfast at 8

Today:
Up at 6:20
Left at 7:00
15 mile ride to work
Arrived at 7:45
Shower at 8
Breakfast at 8:30

Spin Class this eve then ride home.

Snags:
I forgot to bring the charger for my Exposure light - so having to blag a back-up to borrow for the week just in case it doesn't last.

Rear light went flat as it only lasts 5hrs on a full charge. It's why I always have a back-up light!

After my weekend ride - 2hrs in the pouring rain and cold, I decided to get a couple of extra bits of kit so last night bought some new clear lenses, Endura Thermalite tights and waterproof shoe covers. They all proved themselves to be worthy purchases this morning - highly recommended.
