Today was my first day of cycling to work. Everything had I had bought recently or already had did it's job. The Garmin was saying 1 degree and I was comfortably warm after a couple of miles in. Only 8 miles to work and took me 35 mins, but this was more due to traffic through Guildford.
It was almost a very expensive first ride, as when I got to work and locked the bike up, it seems my front light and 510 fell out of my helmet when locking up, thankfully a colleague saw this and called me later to say he had them. I hadn't even realised that had dropped out!
My head was a bit buzzy for the first 20 - 30 mins at work, so trying to concentrate was a bit hard. Hopefully this will change over time.

I did this in July, my first commuter was a Universal City Slicker at £200 that 'lasted' nearly 14 years but it was well past it by the time I sold it!no parking at work for my car, but secure spot for a bike or scooter, and the bus is £13 a week

After a lot of research I couldn't find anything I liked for sub £500! I eventually brought a Dawes Galaxy AL brand new from my LBS for £600 and it is the best £600 I've ever spent on any transport! I ride it so much my wife and kids tell me I love it more than I love them!
It's been totally flawless and 1300kms later I'm still enjoying every ride, even after being punted off it by a Polish guy in a Transit it only needed a new front wheel!

You OK? Bike OK? I had a moment last night, tyres are getting worn, think I'm going to get some Conti Four Seasons, I was looking for some tubeless to go with my new Ultegra wheels but the Hutchinson offerings all seem like summer/race tyres.MiseryStreak said:

Something occurred to me this week. Riding to work is great fun and a bit of an adventure. Some days I have meetings after work, or I don't fancy the look of the weather or I just can't be arsed, so I drive.
Driving to work has regained a sense of occasion as I'm doing it much less so loving the car much more. Especially as I'm conscious of that pleasant 'I've been exercising' pumped leg feeling.
Win win win.

Must've been going a fair old lick to have that kind of stopping distance!Been commuting on the single speed now for 4 months now doing 25 miles a day with a couple of hills, well the SS is in the shop being repaired (meh) so im on the carbon for a couple of days. I forgot how light it was for one but secondly was how strong my legs are now, I have PB'd segments this morning in the wet I couldnt get close to before in the dry. I'm going to enjoy my ride home I think. Cant wait for the summer and the dry I'll smash these segments again.

Cycled three days this week and, whilst my average times haven't suffered too much, my heart hasn't been in it. Everything has seemed like 20% more effort than it normally does. Legs feel like lead. I felt crap on Saturday's club ride as well. Hoping it will pass...
I have mornings like that, I just press on, but it's difficult to keep faith when it's pissing down, freezing cold and blowing a hooli.I got myself some leggings and a balaclava, lovely and toasty on the way in this morning.

So doing an extended commute, go past a spectacularly badly signposted cycle path to avoid tram tracks, and my front wheel goes in at over 20mph. Thrown off bike, hit kerb. Helmet grazed, knee and hip bruised but left arm very painful and can't lift it. Discharged from hospital following no broken bones on X-ray. Worried about left arm, will probably see another doctor tomorrow.
Bike gears knackered, bent, and race blade bent. Will get a proper diagnosis over the weekend.
Tram tracks are fecking lethal. Reckon any chance of a successful case given the photos?

I've got a Scott Speedster (2013) which came with the same Syncros Race 27 wheels, I just changed the wheels to Ultegras (a bargain at £230 - CRC) after I got run over by a van and it was a great upgrade, 400g lighter and feel stiffer, and the Hubs are Ultegra rather than awful cheap Formula hubs that were knackered after only a year. You now have a good excuse to upgrade them I think.
