I was absolutely drenched this morning. Light rain shower said the BBC weather app. It lied!!!

Still I really enjoyed it and it was far better than sitting in the M56 traffic jam that is there every day now that they are 'improving' junction 11 where I would exit the motorway.

Well the last week has been eventful.

Got hit by a taxi on Wednesday - luckily at low speed as I saw him pull out of the junction without looking. Unfortunately I couldn't avoid him completely as there was line of parked cars on the left, he pulled out from the right, directly into me. I ended up on his bonnet, bike under his car. Weirdly only a small amount of damage to both me and the bike.

Then today I was half-overtaken by a large man in a small car. He wanted to turn left at the junction I was approaching, but he also couldn't be held up for a single second. It was only when he realised that he was already at the junction that he aborted the overtake, and decided to lean on his horn as I had the temerity to cycle straight on, blocking his left turn for all of 3 seconds. He must have been very important, I hope he wasn't late.

The downside to cycling, there are some fking bellends behind the steering wheel.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, all motorists should be made to cycle through a busy town centre as part of their driving test.

It dawned on me when I woke up at 5:45 that cycling in meant I could go back to bed until 7:30 and not feel guilty for having done no exercise. I'm liking this cycle commuting more and more. If only I could stop my Race Blades from rubbing 'somewhere' on my front wheel for more than the first bump.

Stupid me!

As I arrived at work this morning, both of my front lights had the red LED lit meaning they needed a charge.

As I set off this evening, I switched my main light on, rode about 300m and the red light came on! I'd forgotten to charge them.

I then had to race home before both lights cut out! I had a good average speed and made it home on one half power light biggrin

Ha! Been there! It's the cyclist's equivalent of seeing how far you can drive with the fuel light on, isn't it!? (I did 6 miles in my Civic Type R on Saturday with the trip computer saying "0 miles" and my 2 year old and 4 year old in the back. Very stressful!)

Thoroughly enjoyed the ride in and back today, as it was only my second time this month. I passed my 4000 mile target for the year on the way home too!

As tempting as it is - don't try adjusting them while riding along. I thought it would be a good idea at around 20mph, my glove caught a spike and hand/arm was sucked into the front wheel and I stopped the bike dead with my arm against the fork, flew over the bars and landed on my shoulder, somehow now free from the bike. It hurt a lot.

This would look better if I could work out how to straighten the horizon...

Taken from about 115m above sea level, looking back over Ottery St Mary, Devon, this morning.

hehe We've all been there. Mine had the good grace to die on the way in this morning which was nice because it had got light by the time it died - now fully charged and ready for the return.

Passed 5,000 miles for the year on Monday woohoo

Our local ale is "Otter". We have an Otter Nursery's for your garden needs. The local kids nursery is called Otter Tots. I'd also recommend the local Indian as well, their Chicken Tarka Masala is good, like a Chicken Tikka Masala, but a little 'otter.

All in all, it's fairly Ottery.

hehe

How much kit are you guys packing for work? I've just packed my 30L bag and it's damn near bursting at the seams. I'm planning to run when I get to work so have a complete set of new baselayers (top & leggings), socks, gloves and a jacket for cycling home in. Perhaps I should just try to dry the morning kit off?

That's good work, I've got 160 miles left to 5,000 miles and 10,000 vertical feet left to 328,000 vertical feet, which should be very doable.

Fed up with the warmth at the moment! Seriously, you get ready for cold, by the time you get going you are overheating! I'd rather it was warm (or warmish!), then got cold, before it gets warmer again. Not this warm / cold / warmish / cold / warm / less warm / ooh looks like snow / warmer again (and so on!)

I'm lucky in that i have shower facilities and a locker at work and dont need to bring any work stuff home with me (the joys of working on classified stuff!) so I usually drive in once a week with enough shirts and things for the week. On a daily commute, I'll pack socks and pants, lunch and some bike stuff, multi tool, tube etc which easily fits in a 10 litre bag. Personally I wouldnt bother running at work to be honest, just make your commute longer by taking a different route as packing all that extra kit sounds like faff for the skae of faff.

The joys of an 15 mile easterly commute home into a 20+ mph westerly headwind, didn't even get a particularly good tailwind on the way in either.

Slowest ride home ever and was nearly taken off by some of the gusts mad
