Just had the roof painted black. Well I prefer it anyway, and it needed doing one way or the other, as there was a bit of grot on the leading edge

Still one of the best looking cars ever made in my opinion.
I have happy memories of looking round Frank Sytner's demonstrator outside Sytner Nottingham when they were in the city centre.

The Sport front bumper makes the 8-series for me - sits better with it.
What colour is yours? Doesn't quite look like Avus blue (and wasn't a standard 8-series colour I don't think). For some reason I want to call it Atlantis but I've no idea why!

It is Avus. Individual, but not overly rare
Now 110000, and have owned for the past 6 years. No major issues and love it to bits!

Black roof, sorry but just no it looks out of place and completely spoils the whole car, your car and all that but imho it has ruined it, should have just painted it back Avus and vinyl wrapped it, easier and if you hate it you can just peel it off.

Very elegant cars with some quite delicate detailing. They hide their 20 years well.
OP, seeing that you've had your car a while, what're the common issues with the V8's, if any?

Each to their own I guess. BMW did produce 360 with black roofs, so not totally out of place! |http://thumbsnap.com/rFqe2bMR This is one of them Only difference was that I didn't bother with the panel on the bonnet just in front of the windscreen One of the preproduction prototypes also had a black roof....

Heres a pretty good, simple website, put together by one of the stalwarts in the e31 fold http://www.meeknet.co.uk/e31/

I've been loving the 840 Sports for a while now but they now seem to be creeping up in price a nice low mileage 97/98 sub 50k car will cost the best part of £15K............! A one owner 30K car has just sold for a shade under £18K...........! I have said it before I think I may have missed the boat in finding a nice one at my money but will I be kicking my self in a few years........?

This is lovely, great choice of colour too! The black roof works well too, I love the 8 series, one of the best looking BMW's ever made.

Heres a pretty good, simple website, put together by one of the stalwarts in the e31 fold http://www.meeknet.co.uk/e31/The only issue I have had with mine is a total rebuild, but not because of catastrophic failure, I had an oil leak on the sump, and something else I forget what now, and whilst in the garage we noticed some weeping on the one head gasket at the rear, to be honest the car is a 1995, whilst it had a replacement engine to get rid of the nikasil problem and a 4.4 put in, the reason we did it was to get the car mechanically sorted, and to do the one set of gaskets required the whole gasket set, so was a two birds one stone type of thing really, other than that starts first time every time, they pull well and they make a bloody good noise, the only real issue I find with them is that they get to 100mph quickly and then it closes your bloody windows. Still not sold on the black roof though, like you say each to their own and all that, least yours doesn't have need a new door and rear quarter panel after mine was driven in to
