I collected my 996 C4S from Paragon today. It is absolutely mint with only 19k miles. Last week I sold my 997 GTS.

Yes, the new car is older and has ~100bhp less, but I am not in the least bit disappointed. It's more than quick enough, inspires confidence around corners more that the GTS or 997.1 S I had before did, and is probably a quicker car point to point. Plus, it's a fraction of the cost.
News Flash... shares are dropping in value, the euros loosing value, greece and spain are bust and now Porsche owners are downgrading... we're all doomed frown

I think ALL 996's are spectacular value ATM - that includes the C4S, but not especially so in the range.

Had it for 3 years now, dearest service (at Works service) £2,500 including 4 tyres and two front wheels refurbished. other two services came in at £700.So not TOO bad, could be better though.

It's three word Wednesday's after all!

The most overpriced of all 996's I reckon, if these are a bargain what does that make a turbo?!
I agree ...my C4s was probably pound-for-pound one of the least inspiring cars i have owned..bit lardy and slow imo,but quite cheap now..turbo 10 times better and not a lot dearer.

Too many factors involved, how you drive, how many miles, where you drive, if you track. Then what you consider as an acceptable condition to keep your car etc....

I had mine for 4 years and warranty works alone was over £20k and I spent over £12k or more just on servicing... Was a great car at the time so worth it.

Definitely great value and you could add early 997s to that list too.

Definately the prettiest of the 996 range, does anyone know how many were made?

I love mine, but find it strange that PSE is listed as a selling point. The C2 / C4 / targa / anniversary can also be equipped with PSE. Is it a lot more common on the C4s and hence associated with that model?

Think it's more of a case of people talking about their ideal 996 i.e. C4S with PSE. It does seem more common on these cars too, probably related to original buyers speccing more options on the higher priced variant.

Not talking about price of servicing in isolation, I'm talking about the depreciation on the car, soon they will be around 15k, a big service with consumables will be close to a third of that, oh and by the way, the wife's Boxster lunched it's engine (ims) shes now got an SL
Maybe shud have bought her a 996 C4s instead of the Boxster ;-0
Why? The 996 has the same engine issues as the Box.

If anything, the 996 lumps have more issues.

should this post not read the 996c4s overpriced?
why?
not very special!
costs as much as a 6turbo!
its a sheep in wolfs clothing!
chocolate engine!
finally a 6c2 is better value!
when the 6c4s first came out in 2003 i was a big fan but over the years i just think it is over rated and over indulged and a bit chavvy to boot especially in cab. form

It doesn't though does it. If anyone can find me a turbo in as good condition with 40k miles or thereabouts as the C4S I have just sold for 21k I will buy it tomorrow, BTW it has to be manual and not in crap colour combo!!!!

All 996 variants are undervalued IMHO. Definitely not over-priced that is for sure.

You could pointlessly argue that a C2 or Turbo represent better VFM, but market demand dictates prices. The C4S is a very nice looking car and plenty fast enough in its own right for general road use. While the Turbo is much quicker, it's even heavier (especially when loaded up with every option under the sun) and the Turbo power delivery and sound doesn't appeal to everyone. The C2 may be a gnats cock faster in a straight line, but having driven both I couldn't tell the difference. What you do notice is the superb handling and brakes on the C4S. It's a great all-round car if you can see past the top trumps game.

For me personally, the only thing that put me off a 996 C4S was the increasing availability of boggo 997s for similar money. That would have perhaps been a better argument against buying one.
