hephillips said: As an off topic question, how do you (threadists) manage the insurance on a 'fleet'. Do you just insure them all seperately / or have a multicar policy (in which case who have you found to be the best for this)/ or insure your main vehicle and insure the others for a day at a time as and when you want to take them out? One main policy and the rest are on classics.

And short term insurance is expensive anyway. I did use Admiral Multicar when I first ran two cars, but the renewal wasn't particularly competitive so I ended up just having two separate policies elsewhere. Then I sold bought another car and it was easier to use a spare NCB I had sitting around than swapping over the policy for the one I was selling. My third and fourth cars are old enough for classic policies, each about £200 a year with no need for NCB. One of them doesn't stipulate being garaged, but sadly it's the one which leaks.

Jobbo said: Mine's a 2004, registered August but built about March I think. It's as early as Tourings get, anyway, since it is one of the very first chassis numbers in RHD. No particular reason to avoid early ones, but don't pay a fortune to a BMW dealer to get the iDrive software updated; it's barely worth updating anyway, but use an independent with Autologic if you decide to. Many thanks for the info.

You never know. A neighbour is working on transport at the Olympics so has bought a Legacy that he leaves down in London to use there, it will no doubt be surplus to requirements at the end of September. When I was contracting I did consider buying a car for the commute, though a thirst 2.5V6 wouldn't have been a good choice, in the end I just ended up spending more on petrol and using the 328, it turned out to be suprisingly economical on the motorway so buying a Golf diesel would have been a total waste of money.

Neither of these meet the thread's minimum budget. However, for a spacious, practical waftmobile, both are hard to trump at the price: et aussi: If the silver one were a V6...

I just remember seeing them in 1995 when no one could really design a steering wheel and just thinking how well packaged it was. I'm not a massive fan of later ones though they do feel great
