A 'friend' of mine (female) was staying in Manchester hotel with another friend (female). They went out for the evening to a party and had a great night out returning to the hotel in the early hours after consuming the kind of amount of alcohol expected for the occasion! After returning to their room and getting changed into their pyjamas she wanted to make a call but realised that her phone was dead, Unfortunately her phone charger was in her car outside the hotel! So, she decided to quickly run down to her car to get it..... She ran through the hotel lobby outside to her car, opened the car (Still in her pajamas!) grabbed her phone charger....only to turn round and see a copper infront of her, hand on shoulder and the words 'your nicked for being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle' where spouted out! Apparently the concierge had phoned the old bill when they saw her leave the hotel with her keys in hand (IN HER PYJAMAS!!!). She was taken to the police station, not allowed to make a call, still in her pyjamas, and eventually convicted of being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle!.....18 month ban! Just thought I'd let you know this story, it makes my pi ss boil but it is also a reminder to us all about not returning to your car after a night on the lash! Even if it is something as innocent as getting a phone charger out of your motor!

Bulls t. No way the coppers can get there as fast as she can get to the car and grab a charger out of it.

Not that I don't believe the story, but...
In the time it took her to get from the lobby, to her car, the police had been called, dispatched, and arrived.
I find that hard to believe.

No, this is how the law is executed.
I know someone who served an 18 month ban for being asleep, sauced, in the passenger seat of his own car.

I find that hard to believe. This. More to this story. She was probably in the driving seat, engine running for the heaters and phone plugged into cig socket

Bloody 'El, Im only relaying the story I was told, literally 3 hours ago. I dont know how the old bill got there so quickly, maybe the police station was next door, maybe she had to route around the glove compartment to find it. Maybe, she stopped off en route to 'knock one out'!!!

Not doubting its happened but police getting there instantly when everyone can give examples of when the police have been phoned and it takes an age for them to get to an emergency rather than something like this. If I just so happened to be tiddly getting my charger out of my car I would be getting it out of the passenger side as theyre usually in the glove box or atleast centre console. You would have you jacksy poking out of the car and not be sat in (not saying she was sat in the car), so there seems shes either adjusting the truth or she has an awesome defence.

Back in 1996 I had a very similar experience. A friend was visiting for the weekend, left his car parked on the street, and went to get a packet of fags from his car after we came back from the pub.
Despite the fact that I stood up in court for him to attest to the fact that he was staying with us for the weekend and had no intention of driving, he also got a year's ban.
