A friend recently had his brand new (less than 1 week old) Triumph 675R stolen.
He set up a website that shows complete CCTV of the theft.

After the last few stolen bike threads, I have been completely shocked how brazen and easy it is to pinch a 10k machine, I know that if they want it they'll get it, but this has made me think about where I park my bike and also security at home to. Thriving mother fkers

Am I right in thinking he did not have an alarm or an immobiliser fitted?

Who does that? - its only a £260 quid option, on a £10k bike for me that's a no brainier, Proberly less than his insurance access.

Thievin' bastids, hope they get their comeuppance and get caught in the act by the 'wrong' owner next time.

Unfortunately got more chance of being pulled for not fastening his helmet strap than theft...

Good luck to him. Hopefully these guys will get caught/killed in the future.

Had a bad experience of the cops recently. In summary:

-Stuff taken from my garage by someone who recently moved in and got the garage number he was renting wrong. Despite the fact his key obviously didn't fit and the garage was clearly in use and well organised, he did not realise something was wrong!
-Knew who it was, confronted he denied it of course, but admitted drilling lock!
-Saw some of my stuff on his balcony, got it back
-He still denied taking anything!
-Informed police
-More low-value items inc my bike cover appear magically (he found it blowing around a field...)
-Police recover more items off him, he admits taking other items but says he threw them out as they were faulty. Though he admits being in the garage.
-Police say as he is lying they will easily prosecute for the rest (£400ish) inc power tools
-Police inform me that they cannot prove criminal intent!!!!!!!!!

Yeah cheers. It turns out you can get away with things if you are completely THICK. Just a good job my bike was at a mates house at the time! Coppers are a waste of time.

Alarms and immobilisers don't stop thieves. Just on PH over the last few years, owners of many types of modern bike has had them nicked, including things like Honda's with factory immobilisers.

An alarm doesn't give you a real saving on your insurance premium, not enough to pay themselves back, especially when they like killing batteries, so you have to replace them every few years. They are just a PITA for owners, and don't stop pro bike thieves for a minute.

I wouldn't take anything nice into central London unless it was parked somewhere I was watching it, or in a secure car park. CCTV camera's don't do squat to stop them nicking it, and you could park outside a police station, and it wouldn't stop a bunch of guys rolling up with a van with false/no plates, getting out, picking your bike up, alarm going off in front of 50 people, lifting it into the van in 10 seconds and driving off, gone and never to be seen again. That kind of things happen every day in London.

Have to say if i was working somewhere like that i'd be using something a lot shabbier. At best it'd be 800 quids worth of unfaired cbr600.

Sorry but you couldn't make that up!

Surely he owes you the cost of the lock and stuff you didn't get back? Never mind the criminal intent. Being born that stupid is probably punishment enough!!

Smiler.

I've parked in that car park.

I've also read recently that disc locks are a waste of time, but this theft surely proves that to be wrong.

Its funny but at my work we have a quiet, private car park next to my office and i park the blade in full view, about 20 feet from my window. If i bring the xr to work i do the same, but sometimes bring it into the actual building and stick it in a corner of the photo studio when i know i'll be away from the office.

A new £10k bike and no disc lock/chain/immobiliser/or alarm of any decription? Odd.

I dont think this is a setup, think it's a genuine unfortunate theft.

Makes me realise though, i'm not being too careful with my bike after all.

I guess it really wouldn't take the scrotes much longer, even if you had a disklock. Mine was half-inched with one attached, so I've no doubt they'd have a 'method' of dealing with those too.

One thing I did think was that if the bike was parked in a more obvious, busier place then it wouldn't have been so easy for them. I've never seen people look so obviously suspicious!!

Are there any private, secure bike parks in London? You'd think it would be worth someone setting one up with security guards and even make it a members only kind of thing. I'm sure that many people wouldn't mind spending a few quid on having somewhere that was secure!

Tell me about it. There were other little bits that made no sense at all, the funniest where he told my missus that he fitted the light in garage - that I had done - and that my work gear, most with my name on, was his. In her words like been in a parallel universe for a few minutes.

Even the coppers were pissing themselves, apparently it was like he had a psychic premonition when he remembered he did have some of my belongings - as the police found them. Utter tt.

You'd have thought handing the police a case where a guy has admitted breaking in and has been found to be in posession of some of my belongings would be cheers easy for them and they could make a fairly strong case that he had the rest away. But apperently not. As I said the police have washed their hands of it and not being a legal type I would have no idea how to get compensation (he owns nothing and I assume he is out of work which rules out the obvious).

Oh and don't apologise for laughing, I've laughed myself! Can you imagine if my bike was there too?

35 bikes a day in the central alone! That's unbelievable!
Wow, the country is in a state! The criminals have taken over and just nick stuff as they please.
And no one is doing anything about it.
Everyone caught stealing should be shot on sight. It's like reducing an exploding animal population back to healthy levels.

Gutted for your mate, it looks like Triumphs are the hot property at the moment for scrotes, especially with Mario149s going AWOL too.
