some great spots here....reminds me of driving in Ireland...spend half the time squinting to decide what hatch back has been butchered to make a nasty looking 4 door saloon

That is odd. South Africa always did get weird models.

But why that?
Maybe Vauxhall/Opel had bits of both cars left over at the end of the European production run.

Apparently it was developed at Luton, although why remains a mystery, as there was already a Viva estate and the Chevette hatch. Just to uglyfy it even more they stuck a Opel Commodore B front panel and grill on it, and a Chevette instrument panel replaced the Viva one (not a lot of people know that biggrin)

What a weird oddball car!

Pretty sure that's a genuine AC Ace - clearly not the fifties/sixties classic but the nineties mk4 model.

There is plenty of this oddball stuff out there to write a book on the subject:

Anybody for A Volkswagen Chrysler Hillman Avenger?

An Austin 1100 booted and hatchback versions from Australia

Australian Holden Torana HB Viva with 6 inches added at the front end to accomodate a straight 6 engine

The Himiko looks fantastic IMO.

A chap in my mums village collects AC cars. Occasionally hear the odd original Cobra flying around. He's got an ACE as well, quite a nice thing in the flesh.

My sister-in-law has one. It's just a Volkswagen up! in Skoda form.

Autobianchi A112 Abarth. 70bhp of out and out fun. Great wee car which - I think - was loosely based on FIAT 127 running gear

Audi S3 saloon, quite nice but I don't really see the point, or knew it existed...

I like small-ish saloons, and generally detest Audis. But that is quite nice - they got the photocopier settings pretty much spot on there

Indeed, most 4 doors look absolutely terrible (when the car has been designed as a hatch) - the Focus and the Micra are the worst examples IMO - but this one looks quite decent!
