A few weeks ago I ordered (on Thursday) a Saris Bones carrier over the phone for delivery to my local store (Holborn) the next day, as I needed to use it on Sunday.
Call the store on Friday and it hadn't arrived. Call the order line to cancel the order (they don't do Saturday deliveries) and they can't do it, it has to be in store. Call the store and they can't cancel it.

In the meantime contact Sigma and drive down to collect one from them.

Call in to Evans on Sunday and the order isn't on their system so they can't refund me.
Several calls and visits later over a few days to see what's going on and eventually a week later the order is on the store's system and I can go in and get my money back.

This Sunday I went in to buy some new clips for the pedals / shoes. I specifically asked the guy in the store if they were the right ones (I had the shoes on and the bike next to me) and he said yes. When I fitted them later, they were the wrong ones.
So yesterday evening I called in to the store again and checked. "No these aren't right sir. You need another type. We don't have any in stock but we can order them for delivery tomorrow".
That was OK, as I had to go in to town anyway. The guy I spoke to on Sunday got a bit of a ribbing from the guy I was dealing with started ribbing him about his mistake. "I was hungry" he said.

Today I went in to the store and guess what, the new clips haven't arrived. They'll be on tomorrow's delivery. This is the same staff member I was talking to last night.
"But you told me last night they'd be here today"
Yeah, but we ordered them at ten to seven that's too late for today's delivery.

Oh for f***s sake!!!

I refuse to shop in Evens again and I'd advise others to do the same.

If I'm in a bind *, know what I want, and they have it in stock, I will buy from them.

I've given up on advice or servicing from my local place though.

*Yeah, I know, 1965 wants it's phrase back.

I've defected to Cycle Surgery myself too. Wanted to get a Hump Pac, ended up with it being a pain and I just went for an Orange one ( which funnily enough I now prefer ).

Their website had loads of problems recently so defected and I think they are keen and seem to know their stuff. Did a great job on my bike service.

I too have had similar issues with Evans over an order placed ages ago, it was supposed to be delivered to store to collect which it never did and eventually turned up at my home address some weeks later. At head office nobody knew where it had gone! Disgraceful service...

On the other hand I ordered my rollers from Wiggle on Saturday night and they were delivered Monday morning without paying extra for overnight/quick delivery. Mighty impressed with the service I received.

My only issue with them is they're always busy. Never answer the phone and when they do you get the sense they want to slam the phone down to deal with the big queue they no doubt have in the shop. Same when you're asking for something. They seem like good staff with massive work loads.

It's not just them, I placed an online order with Chain Reaction last Wednesday and chose the 24 hour delivery option to arrive on Thursday.

Around 3.30pm on Thursday I receive an email apologising for the delay to my delivery - news to me as they still had 2 hours left as far as I was concerned - but offering me a £10 discount voucher on future purchases. However no indication of when I would get the delivery.

On Friday I dropped them an email expressing my desire for the package to arrive that day, to be told that this wouldn't happen and the best they could do was offer delivery of a new package on Saturday. I was promised a new tracking number would be emailed before close of play on Friday, so when that never appeared it wasn't a great surprise when nothing turned up on Saturday either!

Lo and behold, Monday morning two deliveries arrive, one to work and one at home.

Now the next bit is partly my fault, for assuming they'd send what I ordered and would have advised me if any items weren't in stock. I open the box at work, yep everything's there, so I do it back up and leave it under my desk for the courier to collect, and head for home looking forward to fitting my new tyres (amongst other things).

Arrive at home, and yes there's been a delivery, however the box is a completely different shape and much smaller. At this point I start to lose my rag!

In the box are all the bits I've ordered, including my new tyres, but crucially missing the fking track pump I need to blow them up with. Cretins!

At this point my wife looked at my quickly reddening face, and guided my son from the room explaining that daddy needed some time to himself.

If it was just the failure of the couriers they use then I might cut them some slack, however the whole process has shown them to be bloody useless once the order has been placed and like yourself I shan't be using them again.

agree...totally useless....dont get me started on the canary wharf branch....always have to wait 30mins to get any assistance and then its like they are doing you a favour by providing any advice...assuming they can string a sentence together which is questionable.

Found a bike shop in Lewisham that has a service standard thats night and day better.

Guess I'm the only one who thinks they're quite good then!
Yes, they are busy, and yes, you will occasionally get served by the odd fkwit, but generally IME they're usually pretty good!

To add balance I've had helpful advice in store when buying some pedals and shoes. At the desk he even checked the chainreaction prices for me and matched them.

I've also ordered several things online and they've been flawless.

The only beef I have with Evans is that when you're looking through their website it doesn't give you the opportunity to filter by size and what actually in stock.

I was on the hunt for a waterproof jacket a couple of months ago and I went through at least dozen before finding one which would fit and was available.

Not just me who has had trouble with the Canary Wharf branch then smile Completely useless, messed up orders a couple of times for me and it appears you can never find someone who has any knowledge of what they are selling.

They have been fine for me. Bought a few bikes there and way too much other stuff. Four different branches.

Very good and knowlegeable, helpfull staff in the shop in Reading when I bought my ride2work bike.

Superb personal service from them getting into their Ride-it event in Reading with my free voucher when they had to limit entries due to weather ruining their car park.

Can't fault that sort of service so a thumbs up from me.

i think i bought a saddle bag from them last year but thats about the limit. they serve a purpose and do a reasonable job of getting people new to cycling on a bike but i am a snob and want a cyclist serving me not someone who happens to work in a cycle shop.

Bought a spez road bike and added some accessories which they say they will fit. They didn't bother for some and one I ordered wouldn't fit but they never emailed me and it pissed me off. You spend a lot of money and it is little things that count. I have spent a few k at chain reactions and wiggle instead.

Used deliver to store before and they were great! I suppose they're maybe a victim of their own success

Will generally onlŷ buy things there that I can't really try on with Wiggle or can't feel the quality. Gloves is one thing as its usually a fine line between sizes and I couldn't be bothered sending something back from the Internet.

Interestingly, I've used them for a year now, spent many hundreds of pounds on "bits and bobs", and they have been great.

When I've had a problem or two they've been very quick to resolve it very well - and I can always ring them and get through no probs.

I realise you probably don't want to hear that, but in probably 20-30 transactions I've not once had a problem and continue to use them in preference to others

Another vote for Reading from me. Used them for wheel repairs, most of my clothing and a few other bits and pieces. Does tend to depend on who actually serves you however but overall they're ok.

Did blot their record last week however when the 'we'll price match' offer didn't.
