just found a failed weld on my front axle. double cock.

Not good, but could have been a LOT worse. Better in your garage than on the track / road !
Get the paint off the welds and out with some die check.
Spencer can TIG weld so he should be able to help you fix her.

wrongler, where the axle tube goes into the diff case.
reading around the web it is not catastrophic as the tube slides into the diff so is still properly supported. i was about to rebush the car anyway so guess its just a more involved job.
bloody cars. why do we bother?

turns out it isn't structural, just an aftermarket reinforcing bar. on a related note, jeep dealer wants 1200 aed for track rod ends.
