As per title really frown

Out for a drive a while ago and suddenly not boosting past 0.

Have checked all the hoses/pipework and everything seems fine and connected properly. No leaks or splits from the pro alloy IC (which is pretty much brand new anyway) Taken the intake piping off both turbos and they are spinning freely, no broken vanes, no excessive oil. The rear actuator seems fine not stuck open/closed but I have yet to feel the front actuator as I don't have stands etc to get it up on.

If I rev it up there are no tell tale hissing from split pipes etc. Just no boost.

I managed to snap a pic of the front actuator:

Maybe it doesn't show anything but thought I'd stick it up here before I call it a day and get it recovered to jetstream, does it shed any light? frown

Was due to be remapped by yellowshed tomorrow too. boohoo

If you have no boost at all, not even actuator pressure it must be a split pipe, inspect all high pressure pipework very carefully, starting with the throttle body back to intercooler including dump valve and then back to turbo's

I'll have another go over the pipes with a fine toothcomb... Would you expect to hear a split pipe however if standing over the engine bay and revving?

If it is a big split probably not as it wont be able to build boost, one common failure i forgot is the rear turbo to intercooler pipe, the you may want to start there,

Cheers, that makes sense. I know the rear turbo to intercooler pipe is definitely ok, that was the easiest to check. No knuckle grazing on that one smile I'll have another check

Cheers, I did check this one but didn't take it off for fear of difficulty getting the bugger back in again! I'll bite the bullet.

Bit of an update. Spent all afternoon taking the hoses off and gave them a thorough check. Everything fine 100% no splits etc and all seated properly.

Decided to take it out for a check and I'm certain it felt like it was coming on boost as it definitely had plenty of shove. However, the gauge was only hovering above 0 so still not right.

After around 3 miles of steady going it had warmed up and then started feeling very rough. It was hunting and chugging along on a steady throttle and didn't feel right at all so I nursed it back. It sounds a little rough (or at least it sounded different in the cabin from usual, very droney if that makes sense) it felt pretty horrible so I nursed it back to the garage.

So in short it felt ok but not boosting fully for 3 miles then crap all the way back. confused

Would it be any use hooking it up to the diagnostics software? I'd have to source a cable first but I can give it a go before I throw in the towel!!!

Not been very clear. This is what happened before too from what I remember, it was fine before when I set off but to be honest I wasn't paying attention to the boost gauge but don't remember it lacking any shove and it didn't feel rough. Then suddenly I noticed the same rough running and pretty much nursed it back. I did try some proper throttle through second/third gear but it felt horrible and wasn't boosting so I nursed it back then also. This was a week or so ago.

I'm not making this very easy am I? smile sorry

Since then it has been in the garage and sitting stationary I have rev'd and the boost gauge never went above 0 no matter how much throttle I dared to give it. At which point I started reading up and then checking the plumbing and turbos etc.

you will need to drive the car against a load to build boost - you can't rev it in neutral and expect to make any significant boost

Well now I feel like a complete tool getmecoat

So assuming I was going down a total blind alley before, any suggestions given the symptoms? It definitely seems better from cold for a few miles and then gets very rough. I recently had full exhaust, fuel pump, wiring, pro alloy intercooler and breather tank plus new gearbox and it was running fine for a few weeks after I got it back from Jetstream. Although the driver side exhaust tips are very sooty compared to the other side but I think the previous exhaust had a leak somewhere on that bank and yellowshed mentioned it probably had adapted to that before...

It was serviced last September by Jetstream, I think this was the 6k service so not sure if the plugs were changed then. Short answer is I don't know how old they are. getmecoat

Should I replace them?

Also, might be worth me adding it did spend some time outside in the rain recently

Surprised if they would go that suddenly but worth a try if you don't know their age. Out of interest where are you based

I think I'll just replace them anyway as they don't seem too expensive. These ones OK? http://www.gsparkplug.com/shop/ngk-br7efs.html what gap?

I'm in Reading btw! Thanks for helping so far.

let me check the diary for next week - but i might be able to take a look at it on a rolling road near heathrow for you

should be easy to find a boost leak when on the Dyno
