Flying Lizard Prepares for Its Canadian Debut at Mosport

Aug. 5, 2004 - BOWMANVILLE, Ont. Canada--Flying Lizard Motorsports is gearing up for the sixth round of the American Le Mans Series, the Toronto Grand Prix of Mosport, August 6-8. The Sonoma, California-based team arrived earlier this week in Canada at the famed track to test its pair of Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs: No. 45, piloted by Johannes van Overbeek and Darren Law; and No. 44, driven by Lonnie Pechnik and Seth Neiman.

2004 is the GT-class team's first season in the ALMS and they have progressed quickly through the first five races this year. van Overbeek and Law currently lead the GT Drivers' Championship points and the team is second overall in GT.

van Overbeek, preparing for his sixth Mosport race, commented: "I'm looking forward to getting back in the Flying Lizard Porsche, especially at such a challenging course as Mosport. This is not a place where you can afford to lose even a moment of focus. Traffic is always an issue here, and with such a highly competitive GT class this year it should be an exciting race."

van Overbeek's co-driver Law will join him this weekend just 12 hours after competing in another sports car series at Mid-Ohio. "Back-to-back races are tough. There are several other series drivers in the same situation; you just have to stay focused and push through it," added Law. "But I'm confident that the team will have a great car setup ready for us. At Portland, the crew's replacement of the No. 45 engine just 1.5 hours before the start of the race is a good example of their commitment to do what it takes to keep us competitive on the track."

For the No. 44 car, Mosport will be another important building block for Pechnik and Neiman. "With three solid races under our belts since Mid-Ohio, I feel like we are starting to get some leverage from the progress we are making," said Pechnik. "Mosport is a fun course. If this week has been any indication of how variable the weather can be here, it should make for an interesting 2 hour and 45 minute race on Sunday."

The Toronto Grand Prix of Mosport will get the green flag at 12 noon (Eastern) on Sunday, August 8. CBS Sports will have live television coverage of the event from 1-3 p.m. (Eastern Time) and the ALMS Radio Web will have live audio coverage at www.americanlemans.com. The race will be broadcast live in Europe by MotorsTV, starting at 17:00 (UK time).
