Due to the fact Lloyds are the official sponsors. http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18686415bbc said: It is 2012 bonanza time for Barclays, their logos emblazoned across free-wheeling advertising space during the London Olympics.
The bikes cannot be ridden to the Olympic Park itself because another bank, Lloyds, is an official IOC sponsor who have paid serious money for the privilege. This is the stupid all over.

How hard would it have been to put stickers on, covering up the Barclays logos?

It wouldn't be very fair to Barclays who sponsored the bikes and presumably have a contract with London Parish Council. It is a bloody ridiculous situation though and a precursor to any number of stories on the way of bawling toddlers having their lollipops confiscated during the games.

What about the O2 arena? Also, is there a dress code for attending the Olympics? I'm assuming you can only wear Adidas branded clothing and nothing else? And whilst we're at it, I find it hilarious that McDonalds is the 'official restaurant' of the Olympics!

Will the bikes spontaneously combust on entry to the park?
Or will someone in a hi-viz jacket be throwing out anyone with items not bearing the marks of official games sponsors?
The Olympics aren't about people or sports first they are about business and profit, if sport looks good and people do well that's a nice little bonus for the organisers.

Couldn't agree more. However, strangely the article has been edited since you posted it... BBC article now says said: It is 2012 bonanza time for Barclays, their logos emblazoned across free-wheeling advertising space during the Games, although the bikes cannot be ridden to the Olympic Park itself for health and safety reasons.

Surely no bikes will be allowed into the Olympic Park? They have bike parking at several of the entrances.

Lmao, I just looked up this O2 business; http://www.eventmagazine.co.uk/news/941285/BT-2012..."The O2 Arena, one of London's most successful and iconic venues, is to be rebranded for the London 2012 Olympics because of a sponsorship conflict of interest. The rebranding will occur to avoid a conflict of interest with ‘domestic tier one' London 2012 sponsor BT - a rival of mobile phone giant O2." Why the piss do BT need to sponsor the Olympics? I think we in the UK are fully aware of the BT brand by this stage.

Oh I couldn't agree with you more - and I don't think it's a particularly "lefty" stance to take, but I just think the notion of it being about the sports and not the business is long gone, unfortunately, when such huge numbers are involved.

What happens if the O2 arena had refused to rebrand?
