Just had a Hercules and 2 Apache Gunships in close formation pass over fairly low. Seems and odd combination and only RAF St Athans vaguely near by.

Could possibly be related to the return home of 2 Welsh Guards killed in Afgan? Anyone got any ideas?

Thought they flew into brize the other day and the rest of the journey was via Hearse?

I've recently moved to Wallingford - you see these all the time. All kinds of combos. RAF Benson is next door = jellychopper training for the winged ones.

To a Herc and indeed even an Apache, Saints is vaguely close enough to where they operate from.

pretty sure it will be something related to the SAS who are based in Hereford, they come over North Bristol fairly frequently.

I saw the 2 Apaches flying low over the M4 on my way home from work. Looked mean as hell!
I thought maybe they were returning from the range at Pembrey?

Quite often get the pairs of Apaches here in South West Wales, I believe they're going too and from the training area / ranges at Castle Martin.

We were buzzed by two very low-level Hercs yesterday, not at all a common occurrence around here (Cheshire/Shrops), we had a great view as they barrelled by smile.

Tosh. Wales is minutes from Brize for a Herc, any Herc.
And Hereford Gun Club train all over the world but are, as you said yourself, simply based in Hereford.

which bit is tosh? Seriously we see a pair of Apaches quite a lot from our office, often heading west in the morning and back east in the afternoon. It's normally on two or three consecutive days in the week, its not usually with a Hercules though I will admit. Next time I can take pictures if you really want put I fail to see why I have to prove it to you and I spent enough time in hangar 92 to know where brize is.

I just don't geddit why everyone assumes anything remotely military going on within 50 miles of Hereford must be Them at play.

fair enough, the regularity made us think it was linked to training, as in nothing for a few months, then 3 a week, then nothing for a few months etc etc
