Washing off the Sahara sand from a week ago?

As you all know, we all got our cars coated in Sahara sand about a week to 2 weeks ago.

I kind of thought it might extremely 'scratchy' to paintwork so I left it a week it do to see if the rain washed it off first before I washed the car.

Erm... No. Despite the heaviest rain I have ever seen in my life for virtually one solid week, the cars are still coated in sand!

Basting them with water from a nozzle at a reasonable pressure doesn't seem to be washing it off either.

I now need to wash both affected cars but I'm worried that my wash mitt will just be smearing gritty sand around and scratching the cars to buggery!

I have a bucket with grit guard so that's one less thing to worry about!

Any tips for loosening/washing the sand off before I actually wash the car with a mitt?

Thanks smile

Snowfoam. Do you have a snow foam gun? You are most welcome to borrow mine if you are anywhere near Kent (although I hik we still have a hosepipe ban!)

Unless there isn't much left of your LSP underneath, then snowfoam and pressure wash should do it: I did my Z3 and the OH's Mini last week and ran out of time for my work's 3 series. A week later and the 3 series has almost lost the dust due to the heavy rain, but it had a good (2nd) coating of Collinite 476S a few weeks back.

If you don't have a PW & Snow foam, quick drive down to local petrol station and use their jet wash.

First rinse, then press button for shampoo, holding the brush over (but not touching) the car let it drizzle all over (makes doing the sides more fun) then rinse off. You might need to do that twice just in case.

Drive home, maybe give it another rinse and shampoo away.

Or if local to stockport, drop in and you can play with the Kranzle and Snow Foam yourself.

Thanks for that chaps, really useful.

I havent got a PW but my dad has a decent one with foam supply tank so I will head over there tomorrow night and give it a good blasting all over.

Do Halfords sell any kind of Snow Foam?

You might find AutoGlym but depends on the Halfords really.

It wont foam if just using the chemical tank and normal PW lance, you do need a specific foamer for it.

Well you already own a pressure washer don't you? (from another thread) So I guess you already know how to wash your car. wink

I don't see the harm in asking if it's an unusual type of contamination and you're concerned about creating swirls or other marks on the paint.
