Just finished my 9th Lee Child Pursuader - I've 9 to go (read most in order but have also read 3 ones towards the end of the series but decided to start at the beginning).

Am taking a rest from him for possibly two or three books.

Tripwire is possible the next lee child for me

Yes, there's a lot of formula about the Reacher books, but they're pretty gripping generally. I did have a bit of a 'violence overload' with one of them, just the continual beating on other people started to get on my nerves, but I'd read two or three back to back.

Heh. I read the lot back-to-back and was disappointed when I got to the end.

Enjoying Robert Crais's Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series now.

20 books back to back Reacher - how long did that take 2-3 years?

I left the book I planned on reading at home so in the B&B tonight with my copy of a Tripwire Lee Child looks like choice was made for me smile

Eh? Even at only one book per week you could knock them off in six months.

One book a week is a lot - if you have a family have to do some work at evenings and then gardening /washing car food shopping weekends out. Reading 60 pages is what 2 hours a day 7 days a week solid for 6 months highly unlikely or you do little else socially?

Looks like it took me about a year. I started this topic July 2012 and in July 2013 I posted that I was up to date and had started reading the Robert Crais books. Still reading them, currently at The Watchman.
I generally have a couple or three of books on the go; one light fiction like these, a sci-fi novel and something non-fiction.

One book a week is hardly a lot, though I can understand you might think that if it takes you two hours to read 60 pages. That is ludicrously slow, even a very average reader should be able to double that.

If I get my teeth into a good series of books I quite often go through two or even three in a week.

I get through books very quickly - two hours commuting every day and reading in the evening means I rocket through them.

2 hrs to read 60 pages? I would think most people could double that, at least.

Not sure what rate I read at but I don't blast through - sometimes I can sit there all say reading relaxing in a book

I'm on my 4th or 5th Reacher book now and there are a lot of similarities to them. Obviously the "Reacher said nothing / I said nothing" gets trotted out at least 50 times per book, but what strikes me is that Reacher is essentially a vagrant living in cheap clothes for days at a time who only seems to drink coffee and eat fried food and never exercises yet he is made out to be a super-fit street fighter who can kill 4+ men with his bare hands at the drop of a hat and has all the female characters falling into bed with him.

If you read Trip wire you will understand how he gets so strong.

Yes, all that manual labour (digging). Better work out than a commercial gym.

Not done that one yet. There doesn't seem to be any need to read them in any particular order so I just pick them up cheap from eBay as I need them. Currently reading the one where the female Pentagon HR officer shoots herself on the New York subway (can't remember the title) and I have one where he goes back to an old army base he used to work at lined up next.

Pretty mindless stuff but not bad for a couple of quid each.

If you don't mind picking stuff up out of sequence, I recommend the 'book sale' shelf in your local library* - 30p for paperbacks, £1 for hardbacks, usually.

  • - unless you live near me, in which case please stay away and leave them for me.

Really?

I spend hardly any time reading nowadays as I have too much other stuff going on and I still do 3 books a week without any hassles. On holiday I can do 3 books in 2 days.

I love to read!

Ben Hope - all read
Roy Grace - all read
Jack Reacher - all read
Elvis Cole - all read
Harry Bosche - all read
Spider Shepherd - 2 books to go....

I'm going on holiday in a couple of weeks so need to start a new series.

All of the books above were recommended to me by PH'ers and they've all be excellent.

What should my next series be? smile
Mo Hayden
No Nesbo

Both very dark disturbing sort of thriller series but very very good.
All of the Mo Hayder books now finished (just nearing the end of book 7).

Now need a new series. smile
