Hi. I am currently taking lessons but as any petrolhead I am always looking at first cars. The Citroen C1 seems to tick many of my boxes and I actually quite like the look of them. I would be looking at a MY62 facelift example due to the many deals floating around at the moment. Which would you opt for? VTR or VTR+? Is the VTR+ worth the extra? I like the alloys but it isn't a essential. Also, could the Aux-In for iPod be retrofitted at a later date to one of the lesser models? I would appreciate any reviews/tips and any recalls and weak parts. Thanks in advance, Ta!

I've never owned one but a mate had one as a courtesy car and it's seemed fine and ok for a first car, if you afford nice things like an iPod aux I'd go for it. If you want alloys go for it but just remember as you are still learning you accidentally damage them. The build quality didn't seem too far of a C2 either but with a very simplistic dash, also haven't heard any horror story's with the engine or car in general. If you want to be stupid there's a supercharger kit for them, 120hp. (allegedly)

Isn't the Aux-In a 3.5mm jack in the head unit on these?
If its like the 207s then they can be retrofitted like I had. Box with a both a Twin-RCA point and a 3.5mm jack replaces a flap in the glovebox.

As I said, it would be nice to have but not a mustIt was not my first choice in cars, but it is hard to ignore. I like the 120bhp idea! Tom - It is below the heater controls IIRC on the VTR+

They're not bad little cars, I enjoy mine despite having come from quicker stuff. They are simplistic slow in a straight line BUT the chirpy little 3-cylinder engine makes a lovely noise and picks up quite well, in the corners it's about as close to a proper mini as you'll get in a modern car.
In summary, there is not a lot to them but they are fun, my only nag is the seats lack side support.
SO long as you take them at face value for hat they are, a cheap small car, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I will not be using the motorways that often and I work three miles away from home so if this is why the C1 appeals. I will not be going vast distances. Alot of people comment on how good the handling and sound of the engine are. Which colour though? Red or Silver?

I'd go for the higher specced model just to aid in resale, as I did with my car, but it depends on your circumstances. It's worth asking a dealer about whether the aux-in is retrofittable, mine did me a little deal on it.

I would normally opt for the range topper regardless but it adds a fair bit to the price in this case and if a £30 Aux-In could do the same job then I would do rather do that. I do see what you mean though.. c2james - I like yours, but I think I want a car soon - I am very impatient now!

Why get a 62 plate as a first car, what ever happened to peoples first car being an old wreck?
If you really want a C2, why not get one of the earlier ones. You can pick them up for a grand or so, and you won't lose a shed load of money when you stuff it into a ditch.

It is a Citroen C1, not C2. I agree though, I was looking at anything from Hyundai Getz to Astra Mk4 but as said in the original post the deals are quite good at the moment and I am on a low apprenticeship wage so I need some reliability so I can budget accordingly. I like the £0 RFL, 60mpg, no MOT, warranty etc etc..

Went in an Aygo for the first time this week (same as the C1). Really surprised at the speed of the thing. Pulls hard at high revs even two up! Would like to try driving one.

It seems they are always given good reviews and very few negatives. Have there been any recalls for this era of C1? Thanks!
