Have they mentioned drugs? Hmm, so Ben took drugs and Carl didn't....rriiiiiighhhhhhttttttt. http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2003/apr/24/athlet...Makes me think the rest of the show isn't worth bothering with. 'Until Seoul the ambition to become the fastest man in the world had been a ruthless but noble pursuit.' What a load of s t.

'Until Seoul the ambition to become the fastest man in the world had been a ruthless but noble pursuit.' What a load of s t. I heard a brilliant interview a few weeks ago with the man who has written a book about the Johnson scandal - Johnson admits to having taken steroids before but not the type he was caught for and knew he would pass the tests. It seems Lewis placed someone - a shady sounding character involved in gold mining and all sorts - who wasn't accredited in and around the press room etc. after the race and he gave Johnson a beer. It seems pretty likely it was spiked. He won't admit it but wouldn't deny it either. The author doesn't know for sure but was clear he believes it did happen.

Gutting isn't it. I find it all a bit two-faced, especially Lewis 'we all knew something was up'?. Lewis is deemed this god, when he was as spiked as anyone, but the media fall on Ben Johnson as a convenient patsy and the rest of the athletics world let him be one because it would be too much of a disgrace to admit they were all hepped up on goofballs.
Anyhoo, I stuck with it and glad I did, the Jamaican issue was interesting and Usain Bolt bit was ace. I never knew that he was so fast he could 'dawdle' at the end and look about. Now that is cool.
Will there be a weightlifting or wrestling one?

The only fly in the ointment for me with regards to Lewis, was that he never looked or had the physique of a juicer. His speed was all from technique, not power. In many ways Bolt is a throwback to Lewis in his build and approach.
So if Lewis was juicing then compared to the muscles of everybody else...he was on the wrong stuff!!!

But PEDs - especially with a 'good' chemist/trainer - aren't just about size and weight building are they? He may well have used a variety of things aimed to help recovery, lactic tolerance, speed-strength, blood count/quality etc. and not had the type/amount - or natural physique - that would easily tip us off on visual grounds. IMHO, having read a lot about him (plus never liking the arrogant shifty git at the time, so biased!) he was as bent as the proverbial 100m sprinter.

Didn't think I would but the gymnastics one was good - although the Japanese bloke who broke his knee cap, did the pommel horse with no problems and was ok with the rings till the dismount.....

Just seen tonight's programme on the 1500m race and it was fascinating.
I remember watching the documentary on Seb Coe they showed clips from at the time and knowing the roads around his areas so well it felt very 'immediate', I even cycled up some (but never tried to run!) so it brought back a lot of memories as well as having an interesting look at the changing views on training.
I can't believe that some of the races we looked forward to and saw live were c.30 years ago! Seems so recent. What an era for middle distance running.

Glad I watched the swimming one. Very interesting, and was looking forward to the Spitz bit. I think it faltered when it got onto the British bit, and again drugs, yawn. Picked up again wit Thorpedo and his suit. No Duncan Goodhew?

The Race That Shocked The World on BBC4 now. Just flicked it on to hear one athlete from the 80s say 80% of the field was on drugs. He decided not to do them to compete with the likes of Lewis. edit to reference that they mention the '84 games is when HGH use started, and braces on adults was a sign of use. 20 minutes later Lewis is chatting and yip, there are the braces.

Unfortunately I do not know. Lost_BMW said: Just about to watch it - Lewis was such a snide hypocritical *^&! Agreed. Funny how the fella at the end said he went back to the '84 phials with today's tech and yip, there were more hidden nasties to be found.
