Classic Police blunder !

Being new as a registered member to this site and talking to a colleague in work about speeding `n stuff today he just told me what happened to him - He`s got 9 points on his licence, another offence and that`s it, bye bye licence and yep you`ve guessed it he was caught doing 50 in a 30 on a road with cones and works etc.... so he thought he`d ask for the picture having no hope of it helping him out of this hole.. now let me describe him - he`s 6!4" tall about 16 stone and 26 years old and drives a Vectra.. a few days pass and a nice picture comes through - correct road, even correct location ( and he knows he`s 100% guilty ) but what does the picture show ? a blue rinse pensioner behind the wheel of a white Clio.... off the hook !!!

f**k knows I`m just saying what I was told - I`ve since seen the letter and pic so how even the police could be that stupid is pretty impressive.

They do make cock ups, it sounds to me like a wrong picture went in the envelope, but I do find it suprising he got off as I can't see how he would have plead. Not guilty means plod turn up at court with picture (you can bet this would be the right one) and then say sorry we sent out the wrong piccy, magistrate says that OK lets have a look at the right one, and the only other option is guilty.

I know I once got done for doing 67 in a 70 limit according to the paperwork, however I knew it was a typo as I'd sat in the unmarked car and looked at the picture on screen saying 97, magistrate just said "typo they happen" I went guilty with mittigation after legal advice and got fined £40 with no points.

I got 3 points and £40 for 98 in a 70 on the M6 10 years ago and once got let off with a roadside chat for 105 in a 40 at 1.00am in the morning what a nice policeman

pah! I got let off by 2 bike cops who pulled me and a Testarossa on the M25 (about 4 years back) for doing (apparently) over 130.... It was no traffic, middle of night, but they were VERY cool about it indeed....never been so relieved in my life

About four years, It was a long dragged out affair which got adjourned (twice) because of Police cock ups, first time because of the typo and second because they failed to respond to the request to look at the evidence. I was pretty pissed off it didn't get thrown out but they seemed determined to let plod put it right but equally so had something written on the paperwork from the copper who nicked me that said "would have normally been dealt with by means of fixed penalty (£40/3points then) but have run out of notices" The magistrates saw fit to drop the points because I'd been buggered about so much, and I decided not to pay the fine because I'd been buggered about so much.

The story actually goes on where I didn't pay the fine, moved house, got found, got letter from baliffs, got visit from baliffs (wasn't in), got costs upto about £200 then got a letter from the court saying that the baliffs dealing with it were crooked and had been keeping peoples fine money and as such they had no idea who had paid and who hadn't therfore all cases assigned to them were being dropped. Result.......guess I had my lucky boots on that day.
