He says he enjoy's prison, as do many other inmates I am sure. I just can not understand with comments like this why he is not tied and beaten? Yes there is the human rights side of things but he has shot an innocent man dead and is now enjoying life in prison.

If he has the cheek to make public comments like this he should be bound and lashed as far as I am concerned. :-( SCUM

With any luck he'll talk himself into a life sentence and he can spend all his time there. See what he has to say in a few years.

ETA: I notice he doesn't like it enough to plead guilty to murder.

You're getting annoyed by a psychopath, pretty much exactly what he wants...

Some people in life are simply not right in the head!

There are people that love having their scrotums trodden on and beaten with whips.
There are Christian Scientists...
There are people that like Hammond Organ music
Christ there are people that vote Labour!

To denounce an entire system as not fit for purpose based on the views of one lunatic within it is perhaps in and of itself indicative of an issue!

But its clearly not just this one off is it, discussions on the prison system and its policies has been on-going for as long as I can remember.

I suspect as long as time itself indeed...

Friedrich Nietzsche - Distrust everyone in whom the impulse to punish is powerful.

Voltaire - It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere.

This is FAR from a new debate!

Hopefully he'll do it again but to an inmate with a penchant for violent retaliation and will find himself in pain.

He's only been on remand until now though, their conditions tend to be a little better than convicted prisoners.

Let's just clarify something here. Are you talking about Hammond organ recitals or stuff like Booker T & the MG's and The Charlatans as well?

He's just putting on an act for his equally scummy mates. It's all part of his 'hard man' bravado.

Hopefully he's going to have plenty of time in prison to reflect on the fact that taking the piss out of the court in his own murder trial may not be the smartest of moves.

Just wait until he has been found guilty and is taken off remand and put into prison proper.

This isn't really about punishment though; its about caring for law abiding citizens more than criminals by providing an effective deterrent. Surely this can be achieved only by making prison a worse place to live than in free society?

Edit - Some people in prison are experiencing a far better quality of life than anything they could hope to achieve without hard work in the open. This has to be cross purpose.

If you have nothing to look forward to on the outside prison is actually quite easy. Comically, the more serious the crime, the longer you are in there, the easier you have it..

This seems to be the source of much of the 'prison is too cushy' outrage. Is it actually true though? Why do you think prisoners have a better quality of life than outside? One room with a bed, tv and crappy food three times a day is not hard to achieve without hard work.

Compared to his miserable worthless life on the outside prison is probably preferable. Plus all his mates will be there. All we need to do is make them work while they are there. Chain gangs building roads and railways perhaps.
