Play on drivers window how to...

Doing a few jobs at the moment one of them is to get less play on the window so it doesn't touch the hood ( not the targa bit) bit after tightening all bolts and nuts the play us still there any ideas to fix ?

Theres an adjustment screw which will move the window up and down when fully closed. Its about 1/3 the way along the door (from the mirror end) and is tucked down behind the brushes on the door and accessed from the outside. If you run your finger down the brush to expose whats underneath you'll see it. Can't recall which way to turn but do 1/2 turn either way and you'll work it out. From memory its about 2" below the level of the top of the door.

Good advice from FFG, and just a tip on getting at that screw, its a s*d trying to get a screw driver on it when the brush obstructs your view down into the door top.

The tip:

Get a piece of roofing lead flashing about 6 inches wide and 9 inches long (doesn't need to be precise) Wrap the 6 inch into a S shape and use that to push the brush down hanging the rest of the lead outside the door. This will give you a view of the screw head and enable you to adjust the window stop height.

Top advice - I had a thread on this a while ago and people provided pictures as I couldn't find it to start with.

Lead idea is interesting but won't that scratch the paintwork ?

I have a slightly different problem in that the window jams as it comes up. It's like the trailing edge doesn't come up initially so the window rotates slightly and jams. To raise the window, I have to push the rear edge of the glass forward and that rotates it back again.

Is the rear window channel secured in the door somewhere. I'm guessing that has come loose or corroded. Sorry to hijack thread.

You're correct, door trims will have to come off I'm afraid.

Do you have any pics or knowledge of how the glass is actually supported ?
I'm guessing but it could also be that the rear of the window has come away from it's support in the lifting mech ? Feels like the front of the glass is fixed but the rear is not and can be lifted upwards.

I'll have to get in there and see. Better start lubing up !

Here's a pic. of the lifting mechanism. Can't remember exactly how the glass is held into the horizintal bar. Maybe you just need to lift glass out of the way and carefully squeeze up the bar to obtain a tighter fit. Will probably be obvious what you have to do once you see it in front of you.
