Quite an interesting article on Amazon's changing strategy in the US... essentially changing their model of competition on price (specifically regarding Sales Tax) and moving towards a 'same day delivery' model. They're certainly spending some serious money setting it all up...

If you think about it, if Amazon opened up a "Collections Desk" in your town with next day collection, I don't think many towns would survive tbh.

You could be right.

I suppose logistics is the only thing stopping that. With such a vast catalogue of items it'd be very hard to get things to your collection desk within 24 hours, unless it was a warehouse in every town and the costs of which would probably negate the idea or make it quite difficult at least.
