Hi all, car in for it's 12000 service, and I asked if they can check the handling as it seems to have gone a bit Woolley lately, well got the phone call today, the gaz golds that have only done 15000 miles are f ked, one rear has lost all it,s resistance And the NSF has cracked, not very good for 3 year old dampers, OH well, down the Nitron road we go. Moan over, just feel a little pissed off.

Just had all 4 of my Gaz shocks rebuilt for £150 + springs....not to bad I thought,Nitrons are over 1K and these need rebuilding on a regular basis.........you get what you pay for I guess?

Yep, you are right, BUT the price you pay for having them removed, parcled up, send off, waiting 3 weeks for them to return,(car outside while waiting in all weathers) pay for refitting then adjusted then set up., it works out only a few quid less than having Nitrons fitted.......

My Nitron's were fitted recently - fantastic upgrade, and performed brilliantly on the Le Mans laps. Anyway, according to the individual schedule received with the shock, it is recommended the shocks are assessed and serviced every 12,000 – 18,000 miles (or 10-15 hours race/track use). What's the Gaz schedule in comparison, just out of interest?

What's the Gaz schedule in comparison, just out of interest? Yip, I'll go along with that. The Nitrons I used on my old Tasmin race car needed rebuilding / repairing at the end of every season. The Nitrons on my Tuscan 2 have now done about 30,000 miles and they are shagged and probably have been since 24,000 miles. At some point I'll stick the original Billys back on and send the Nitrons back for a refurb. I think they charge about £85 per corner plus parts and VAT.

We normally expect to service the shocks every 5 years or so on road cars and it costs about £25 per corner for a service. I've checked up with Topcats who fitted Gordon's shocks and they were fitted in 2006 so probably a bit overdue. Anyway Gordon YHM

Nitrons are great shocks I have done around 2k with them on the Cerb so far very impressed , I ran Gaz nickle On my Chim and never got on with them. One leaked within 100 miles fixed for free but cost me the hassle of removing them and postage to send them back and they squeak all the time, very irritating . As every one says you get what you pay for.

Had GAZ on my cerb for a few years now, done loads of trackdays and quite a few k road miles, no problems so far.

I put some Gaz Golds on my Cerb around 4 yrs ago and then asked Topcats to set them up for me for fast road use and I have been happy with them. I know that I had swapped out the old tired originals so the Golds were bound to be an improvement and I've not had the hallowed Nitrons, but the Golds have felt fine to me. If I was a better driver who had done a bit of racing etc then maybe I could appraise the difference but in my case, it would be like asking a fat man which pro running shoes are better.
OK, maybe I can drive a bit better than I make out, but you get the idea.

Just to say all sorted now, gaz shocks have been really helpfully, and I must say Dom at power performance has bent over backwards to solve this problem, I did not realise that shocks needed to be serviced every 15,000 miles, so my fault for not understanding this, once again thanks to Dom, and Gaz..........

I've just popped in from the MX-5 community, whilst googling my Gaz settings...
I would give Derek another ring, he's pretty damn good and I'm sure will sort you out.
