Only just noticed this thread and now I wish I wasn't working this Saturday! Maybe an early morning Sunday ride is on the cards with a couple of these routes.

Ki3r you wouldn't fancy a ride out would you?
I would indeed somewhen! Sorry only just seen this! Although I did spend Sunday afternoon riding between Wimborne/Cranborne/Verwood with Bike Safe.

Sundays aren't too good for me though, unless its evening as I'm working. Saturdays I'm free most times though.

PM sent!

I work every other weekend but only Saturday mornings. Sunday Evenings are just as easy as Saturday afternoons but anyway we'll stop de-railing this thread now biggrin

More hooning routes needed!

I'm thinking of a hoon this afternoon, my 530i has been used almost exclusively for the 12 mile round trip to work for the last few weeks and needs it's legs stretched!

Does anyone know of any decent roads in Somerset/Wiltshire? Got a day off tomorrow and want to make the most of it on the bike before it gets too crappy with the weather.

Ideally I would like around 100/150 miles from Poole for a round trip. I'm thinking possibly Poole to Stonehenge, A303 until Templecombe area and back that way as I know it. Unless anyone knows of anywhere else?

Poole to Wimborne, then head out of Wimborne towards the Horton Inn, turn left just before the pub, follow until the off-set cross roads, go straight over, first left towards Shaftesbury, keep on this road, down zig-zag hill etc. until you get to Shaftesbury, from there, head towards Salisbury past fovant, into Wilton - stop at Wilton house for the Wilton Wake up - should be some nice old cars and a bacon sandwich! Head out of Wilton towards Salisbury, turn right at the first set of lights and head towards the race-course, follow the road towards coombe bisset, then turn right on the road back from Salisbury towards Wimborne, via Cranbourne etc.

That's the route I'm considering tomorrow morning if anyone fancies it anyway!

Funny enough thats just what someone else has mentioned (well A30 Salisbury to Shaftsbury). Off out in a bit once I've done a bit of cleaning!

Found some nice roads on the way to my friends last night.

Poole --> Wimborne --> Badbury Rings --> Blandford --> Compton Abbas Airfield --> Shaftsbury --> Gillingham --> Wincanton

No idea of the roads though, will have a look on Google Maps after work tomorrow if anyone is interested. Ruined it a bit by going on the A303, will try and find another way, think via Mere off the top of my head.

Add the B3089 to your list. It runs between the A350 near the A303 junction close to Mere & the A30 at Barford St Martin. Much less busy & has more overtaking opportunities than the A30. Create a loop with the A350 to Shaftesbury, A354 to Combe Bissett, Wilton past the racecourse onto the slow bit of the A30 until Barford St Martin.

Poole - Wimborne A350
Compton Abbas airfield is the Shaftesbury High Road (not classified but better than the A350 Blandford to Shaftesbury low road)
Shaftesbury - Gillingham B3081

see my 100mile hoon thread for some a tried tested ride round the local area, upto around a303 and salisbury areas. Takes in many of the best roads and views found on our roadtrips over the last 10 years. Route may be shortened just for more local hoonage....tons of road choices still

Slightly off thread - Is there a Dorset car meet? Maybe a drive along some of these routes?

I'm off to Sherborne tomorrow from Poole, don't plan on getting there until early afternoon, so got the morning to myself to take the long way.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I normally go A350/A357/A30 way, but thinking of some more interesting ways. Will be on my bike smile.

If you aren't bothered about going that fast, try something like:

Poole, Lytchett Matravers, Worlds End, Winterbourne Kingston, Winterbourne Whitechurch, Milton Abbas, Bulbarrow, Hazelbury Bryan, Kings Stag, then A3030 to Sherborne.

If that looks like too much aggro, same route as far as Whitechurch then up the Winterbourne valley through Turnworth, and over to Sturminster Newton.
