First post here! Having been a reader of PH for quite some time and having recently purchased a car off a PHer I thought I'd dive in and join the party.

The car is a 1993 Toyota MR2 Rev2 which having come from owning a stripped out Mx5 Track car is a delight to sit in, I made the 170 mile journey from London by Train to collect the car having only seen the car in pictures and relying on the sellers word as to the state of the car. The whole experience with the seller was a straight forward and simple process. Very helpful and the car was as he had described to my delight. The journey back was effortless and I really have warmed to the car. Coming from an Mx5 it’s surprising to say but it’s a lot more practical and with the T-Bars out the engine and induction noise is slightly addictive!

The overall condition of the car is very good for its age, the previous owner has really looked after the car, plans are to get a new cam cover gasket on and a re-trimmed leather gear knob as the current one is showing the mileage, after that it will be maintained, cleaned, polished and driven!

Anyway some pictures after getting her back. Hasn't been cleaned yet due to me being in London for another week and all my cleaning gear being in Wales, no way I’m going to trust some clean your car for a 5’er man and his grit filled sponge!

Looks nice - how much and any rust?
These are pretty cheap now but a lot are dissappearing off the roads as they fail MOT's on cill rust or failed alternators and clutches. I think values will start to harden soon as with the Mk1
Useful info and spares on IMOC for you!

She was £900 + a train ticket and half a tank of fuel to get her home!

Body work is very good. No advisories or anything on any of the MOT's from the history I have for rust and there is only the smallest amount visible on the bottom of the sills where a previous owner has jacked the car up awkwardly, I know about the dreaded sill rot coming from a 1990 Mx5 but these really are clean.

Drives well considering its done 140k

Hopefully it will get me through the next 8months without too much cost as its more of a go between car while I finish off Uni.

I love it biggrin Cheers for the forum suggestion, hadn’t come across that one.

Sills aren't readily available for these hence many going to the breakers after it sets in. Apparently Astra and Ka sills are similar. Worst part is just in front of the rear arch. Also look at "two brutal" which is the site run by the guys with 3.0v6 conversions. There's a few mr owners on here and there's a how many have you owned thread on japchat.

Check the bottom of the doors inside and out for rust. The window seals at the top of the door tend to leak so you get water inside the door, rusting them from the inside out.

Even if you do find some rust, you really can't complain for shed money! smile

Get the roof off and go for a hoon thumbup

Ill have a look tomorrow at that one, I did notice that water was dripping down for the join between the t bar and the roof the other day after getting all excited, taking the roof off and then getting caught in a pretty heavy down poor..... biggrin The roof off hooning never fails to put a smile on my face, bring on this warmer weather they are promising us next week!!

Andy - you will find that the T-Bars generally don't leak, if you have had them off and it rains you will get a bit and also if it's been stood a while under heavy rain but normally it's not a problem.
