I have always fancied a mechanical IWC watch. This morning I placed a holding deposit for the above model from a reputable dealer. It is used although supposedly in mint condition. I aim to view and purchase this coming friday. I am happy with the brand and the minimal looks of this model. However does anyone have negative thoughts before I pull the trigger? Thanks all

The Portofino is just a stunning watch. IWC are one of the best watchmakers when it comes to engineering and quality (they were founded by an American engineer after all) and the Portofino really embraces the stylish side of the brand as well.

I have one, and it's gorgeous. Only thing I would say is that the Portofino can look small in this age of oversized watches. If you're trying before you buy that shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for your replies. I have to say my wrists are not the largest in the world, so I suspect a more sensible sized piece is going to look more natural.

I'm a big fan of the Portofino range. Excellent choice, sir! Which strap, face etc does the one you're looking at have? I think I'd plump for the white face on mesh if I had to make the call..

The one I have chosen has a white face, with no numbers or numeral markings. Steel case with black croc strap. It is very minimal looking and subtle.

I have that exact watch on my wrist now the steel scratches a touch easily to wear every day but I really enjoy wearing it when I do.

I pulled the trigger today. Finally I have an IWC. It was worth the wait! I purchased it from Tom at WatchFinder in Maidstone, Kent. It was even better than described. I could not see a single microscopic mark on it. To my eyes it looks 100% brand new. I have saved a lot of money over the RRP. The added bonus is I actually much prefer the simpler face (no numerals) and plain rectangular hands on mine. So happy right now. I'll post a pic on the 2012 thread once I get my camera dusted off. Thanks all
