Apparently the cause of all this horrendous weather has been the unusually southerly course of the jet stream so far this year. They're expecting a change in pressure over the Atlantic which will push it north away from us (unless, perhaps, you're in Scotland...)

So, top-down weather for August it seems.

Like the forecast for a "barbeque summer" a couple of years ago, we shall see... smile

The associated articles on the OP's link are probably best aired in the "climate change" threads hehe .

This year has been pants for weather. It's got to that stage where I'm not even making plans for Carnival and that's getting to be the one thing I do with my mates all year.

Aren't they're still going in some areas? As preposterous as that sounds...

Nope all bans have been lifted now, but only in the last couple of weeks!

But if the weather doesn't change soon they might have to implement one in Stornoway! While England and Wales experienced 231% of their average June rainfall last month, Stornoway experienced just 41%.

Normally all the rain the rest of us are getting at the moment just falls on Stornoway but because of the position of the jet stream, we're getting it all instead and Stornoway is turning into the Sahara!

At least they are making the most of the rain. The Olympic swimming and diving events have been moved to the Olympic Stadium as the water is deeper and cheaper to fill up.

Please also stick to the middle lane when approaching the games park, the outside lane is reserved for Olympic athletes and the inside lane is reserved for Sharks.

Yep, I've felt a twinge of envy every time the weather forecast has moved onto Scotland. Consistently the warmest, driest part of the UK this year.

Apparently North America has had a pretty severe drought for the same reason. The low pressure areas have all missed them en route to Blighty.

I love the fact people allow him to run one of the world's major cities. It's nice.
