Hi all,
I know i'm setting myself up here for a good telling off but i really need some advice,

I had a Full abdominal Hysterectomy (Ovaries, cervix ect) on the 26th June which was 22 days ago.

Now i know that its a huge operation and we're told to rest and lift virtually nothing for an amount of time, however being a mom and having a house to run i thought i was strong enough to carry on as usual....... So last Saturday i was pottering around in the kitchen, taking up curtains, hoovering, lifting my tool box etc frown
Very very stupid i know and WOW how i'm paying for it.
I now can hardly walk and unless i am laying a certain way i have horrendous pain in my lower left abdomen....The pain is as bad as that i had when i first came out of surgery.....It however goes completely as soon as i get into the "comfy position".....
I have Oramorph, Kapake, Tramadol and Ibuprofen......This combo makes me sleepy and high but doesn't get rid of the severe pain....

So the question is does anyone on here have any idea what i have done ????? Am i going to need more surgery to rectify the damage i feel i may have caused, or with enough bed rest will this "go away" ???

I really don't want to go back into hospital and before anyone points out the obvious i know i am a knob....

Any advice would be very much appreciated

TIA

Mel

This probably isn't what you want to hear, but you need to go straight back to the hospital/doctor to see what damage, if any, you have.

I am very surprised you came out of surgery in pain.I had IV morphine in my back for 4days after my total pelvic clearance which is a full hysterectomy +++, due to Advanced Ovarian Cancer and had no pain at all.

With regard to your current problem you need to 'phone the ward now that you were in and tell them what you have done. Good luck with it all.

Mate, really could be ANYTHING from popping a few stitches through to bleeding that will want the attention of a surgeon.

Hopefully by now you've been back in and are returned to the road of recovery one way or another.

I've just got out of hospital too.

Sucks dunnit?

Being a guy and knowing nothing about women's gearboxes, automatic or manual, I'd suggest you go to the hospital today and tell them you slipped and felt something pull, and it hurts like hell.

Don't tell them you were lifting stuff else they'll treat you with disdain and contempt. Well, I would anyway.

Get yourself to hospital you fool.

My mother had one, had pain afterward, ended up being taken to hospital by ambulance withe severe bleeding. After that sort of op take no chances & stop acting like a bloke!

Tell them the truth about how it happened, that way they can do their best to help you.

There's no judging when it comes to accidents.

Just tell it how it happened. You'll be fine.

Please get to doctors and be honest. There is no real idea what you may have done, most possibly some burst stitches.

All the jobs you have listed will have put an awful lot of strain on healing tissue.

I work with animals and you can't tell them to rest, I'd have thought people would listen to advice better!

Isn't it supposed to be 6 weeks at least of minimal exercise etc.

Really hope this is just a scare and with rest etc you'll be fine but yes get yourself checked out.

Pop her in a crate so she can't run about too much while the stitches heal? hehe

OP - please confirm that you've seen a medic and are now OK!

Hello all smile
Thanks so much for the replies.....When i first posted my problem there didn't seem much response so i didn't think to look back here. Sorry again.

I didn't get it checked out as being "like a bloke" i figured with enough bed rest it would get better.
I contacted my doctors surgery and requested some more pain relief, so with the help of Tramadol, Oramorph, kapake and Nurophen plus and plenty of rest i seem to have gotten past the really bad pain.
I feel i'm just experiencing the normal pain for someone four weeks post op.

I do however feel a bit of a lump in my left side when i cough or laugh and i have to apply pressure with my hand to "support" the pain/lump (if you know what i mean silly)
I will mention this to my surgeon when i see him, which is in a couple of weeks time.
I think i may have a hernia but i'll have to wait and see.

I'll let you know how i get on smile

Thanks again for the advise, even though i read it a little to late redface

If you are experiencing symptoms that are different from those you were told to expect, do not wait 2 weeks. Go and see the surgeon or your GP as soon as possible.

New lump in the area of pain implies you bled into some tissue i.e. a bruise but on a larger scale so get it checked to be sure but don't worry and don't lift heavy stuff!!!

I almost mentioned the possibility of a hernia but I figured you'd have seen someone and they'd know if you had.

I would have thought it be better not to wait and see otherwise you may risk a strangulated hernia (healing tissue may eventually heal around the protruding tissue)

Hopefully it's just a contusion but I really don't think I'd wait to find out, surely a ck up after what you've been through is a minor inconvenience?

Strangulated hernia hey frown................That doesn't sound great...
The problem i have is that i don't want to go and get prodded and poked by someone unrelated to my op.
The area is so sore and my tummy is very sensitive and still quite painfull to touch. I'm not looking forward to seeing my surgeon and he's the expert, let alone someone i've never met ( i have a huge problem with trusting people with my pain )

I only have a week to go so i'll take the chance frown

Without starting another thread i wondered if anyone would know if i need HRT ?????
I had one ovary removed but to be honest i am very emotional one minute and then very angry the next....I flip out over the slightest thing which is not me at all...
I also have to have a fan on my face all night or i feel red hot confused
Any advice or experiences (ladies) would be great

Thanks again all
Mel biggrin

It seems strange coming onto PH's and being so open without fear of being ripped apart hehe
Also strange to type something without mentioning V8's, OTRCAI's or AFR's etc hehe

I really know bugger all about this but, with your symptons, I really wouldn't wait.

Go back to the hospital and tell them about it.

If it is a hernia, these can become stranglated and cause all sorts of issues.

Stitches possibly popping can also be harmful.

Don't bugger about or try to put up with it, go and get medical advice/treatment and sooner rather than later.

I really hope that it's nothing but let the experts tell you that.

Speaking as a man who tends to wait until he's clinically dead before getting proper medical attention... go and get sorted. Now. If it's internal, you can't tell what's going on.
