Just a quick question.. Could the gorgeous boomerang lights from the first incarnation of the coupe be retro fitted to the later version? I presume Maserati must keep a few spare sets of them kicking around for existing owners.

Without looking at the picture of the car and going from memory I would think it would be impossible.

If not impossible, extremely costly as the lights are different shapes and I am sure it would have to include the cutting of metal. Really upset that they gave in to the moaning c*nts in the U.S.

Maybe we should start a petition for the European and Asian owners as we have taste. I showed my lawyer in the U.S the original lights and he wasn't very happy. He has a 4200 and much prefers the originals.

Anyone know how to set up an online petition? We could post it on the F-chat and Maser sites and maybe the factory will take some bloody notice. I am not one for safe designs. Safe design is important but not for cars of this magnitude.

No - unfortunately - the rear wing panels are completely different (and non-interchangeable)

Yes they can. A company in the US will do this for you (again maranellos told me of this). Cost is 15k Us Dollars. Obviously this is an aftermarket job not a factory effort.

Well I guess nothing is impossible, but £10k to do it! I was kinda hoping it would just be a straight forward swap-over job, but then if it was everyone would do it, over here at least! Out of curiosity, if they canned the lights due to US safety legislation how do the converted cars fair when it comes to MOT time?

Don't believe it was safety legislation. The generally accepted urban myth on the subject is that american focus group participants didn't like the lights. Make of that what you will!

I cant see why it wouldnt be possible.
If the boomerangs are a little bit longer then cut an extra bit out. The gap left from the old lights can easily have a plate welded in and resprayed.

Have you never been to a hotrod show?
Anything is possible!

US focus groups evdiently thought this was a good idea too:

Euro manufacturers should realise that their cars sell (certainly Ferraris, Masers etc) because they are exclusive AND European.
