Hi All,

My business has just registered for VAT and I have had a call from a lady from the HMRC Labour Providers unit wanting to come and see me. This is not a problem nut I have no idea who they are. Anyone had any dealings or heard of them? Google give lots of answers..but none of them clear.

Many thanks
Pete

You didn't click on the first link that comes up?

Since this is the first time you've come on to the VAT radar, and on the assumption you are in a line of work that could involve employing seasonal workers, they're just coming to make sure you aren't about to commit VAT fraud.

Providing you aren't about to commit VAT fraud and you have good financial records, you'll have no trouble at all. Make sure to ask questions from them about anything you aren't sure about. I always find it helpful to have people from HMRC as friends rather than adversaries. wink

The kind of friend which will stab you in the back at the first opportunity. HMRC are not and should not be regarded as friends - be friendly towards them by all means but always be careful what you say, if in doubt refer to your accountant. They can and will shaft you given half a chance.

+1 be on your guard.

They try to come across as friendly and helpful but at the end of the day, all they want is the tax.
