What's wrong with my knee...?
Discussion
I think my running career is a bit over
For about six weeks now, I've had a weird knee thing (much worse on the left but noticeable on the right too). What happens is if I stay in one position too long, it sort of stiffens up and is very sore at the back of my knee when I try and move it. I can walk it off in a few steps but I think it's getting worse. Also, impact hurts in a sort of dull pain way. Anyone got an idea what it might be so I can do some reading?

OP, assuming you are a frequent runner, have you had a break for a while recently?
I used to run a lot, and upon having a break of around 6 weeks (cannot remember why now! - combination of moving house and extremely busy at work) one of my knees got the exact pain you describe.
My doctor and physio found nothing wrong and I couldnt really even desribe what hurt. Mine only went away when for a few days I ran through the slight pain and got back into it again. Whilst I do not condone perhaps trying this, I think because I stopped running, the knee weakened and I think mine only got better once I got the strength into it from running again....
Reading that back, this seems like spectacularly bad advice...

Interesting...
How would I describe my running habits? Um, used to be frequent, then crashed my motorbike and that knocked me out for about 6 months. Ran on and off (but not in any organised 'training' sense over 2011 and tried to get back into a regular 3 x 5k a few months ago. Mostly ok whilst running but it's the sitting about that sucks.
In addition, I do a lot of wakeboarding and snow ski pretty hard so wondered if the impact thing might be to blame. With that said, I was speaking to a pal earlier who reckons I've done a hamstring or something and it's just presenting in a weird way. I'll admit there's a sort of a feeling of tightness up the back of my leg so could it be that??
