BBC news said:
London taxi drivers who were planning to protest over their ban from using Olympic traffic lanes have been banned by the Metropolitan Police.

They were due to demonstrate at Hyde Park corner at 17:00 BST.

They are now banned from protesting on any part of the Olympic Route Network from 16:00 until 03:00.

And with some razor sharp wit on behalf of the Met Plod

I'm a little bit lost on this, the meter keeps running irrespective of whether they're moving or not, so they make money either way. I presume having a cab in an Olympic lane trying to move into stationary (grid locked) traffic with a few official games cars or coaches behind them, would be an issue for the IOC and defeat the purpose of the Lanes....not that I agree the damned things in the first place.

TBH, I cant afford to use them in the first place.

I work on Piccadilly, very central London, normally from 9-5 Piccadilly is two lanes of solid traffic, one bus lane, one car lane......since the Games Lanes started its been practically empty, if anything, getting around in a cab will be easier!

ETA:
The Jesus bus around midday every day this week, has been fun to watch go by!

Indeed why should the public not be prevented from using the roads. Quite right that our lords and masters have their own lanes to use so as not to get stuck with the rest of us scum.

fk them. Taxi drivers, especially black hacks, really need to get over the notion they are some form of superior road user.

Just a question for you Mr Cabbie, can Olympic cars use bus lanes during their operational hours like black cabs can? Walked along Piccadilly seeking lunch and all the official cars were in the normal traffic lane, with all the black cabs in the bus lane.

Based a a survey of 1 (thats you) I'm beginning to suspect that the Olympics isn't being the economic boon to the country that it was sold as.

You'll never guess who I had in the back of my recession etc etc

When they say it'll generate a lot of money for London, who exactly benefits?
I'm guessing it is hot dog stands and swarthy foreign types selling paper flags.

Ironic that a protest against the disruption being caused to the community has been stopped on the grounds that it might disrupt the community.

Just accept Chris (Mr Security) Allison's command guys - you will not protest meaningfully, you will fall in line nd enjoy the Olympics. After all you have and will pay for it.
