I was asking the same question recently and we told stone chip.. I'd rather have precut vinyl so it looked neater. I am not going to stone chip that area, art was never my thing.. I'll end up stone chipping the whole rear quarter..

I'm keen to know how you get on...

Hi

On my SEAC its plastic/vinyl which has a few stone chips which is why I want to change it!

It has a positive line so it can't be paint unless it about 20 coats.

The original stuff from the factory on my 450SE didn't last long so I bought the protector used on the old 911 Turbo's with the massive rear arches. Price wasn't too bad for Porsche at the time and think its still on Jim's car by the look of it, 20 years later.

Mine's getting pretty worn after a mere 46k miles, what's the Porker one made out of - is it some sort of vinyl?

Not sure it's vinyl, somewhat tougher than that. Some sort of thin flexible compound that is virtually impossible to make a hole in. It cuts with sharp scissors though.

Had a quick look on fleabay. There's a bloke selling stone protector for Porsches. Not a bad price. I might invest and see how it looks.

I did mine myself. Not too hard and mask the area accordingly. Cannot remember if it was hammerite or dinitrol? I did a test panel first to see what the finish was like then used the correct masking tape and layered it up, dry and a supoerb finish. The hardest part is getting the masking tape to keep the nice curve.

This is the stuff I used, seem to remember the curves meant not to much trimming needed for the 450:

Well David the top part to which you are referring to i believe is still going strong. It looks like a type of vinyl and is a dark grey in colour and appears to be laquered over. I have reapplied black to the lower part of the arch and simply used black hammerite from a spray can. Not a great job tbh but ok for now.

While washing ma Zed lastnight I've just noticed the Nissan has stone guards on the rear arches.. I'm going to take the TIV along to the local dealer and see if they have any in stock and see if they'll do..
