I have a 2003 S60 T5, but about half way through a long journey on Saturday night, it started to stutter under any throttle load. Bascially, you can feel lots of tiny hesitations in the engine as it tries to pull or even hold a speed. It feels like ABS cutting in but on the engine rather than the brakes. The idle has also become very lumpy. Any ideas of what it could be?

Have you checked basic things like all leads to the coil packs? and spark plugs?

Get the car read of codes and then take it from there. I know some dealers like to charge for this but there's more than enough people dotted around the country, equipped with Volvo diagnostic kit, who'll be willing to help you out I'm sure!

T4RRR, thanks for your offer on help you email me, but the problem is now resolved, and the car is running well as before. Needed coil packs on cylinders 1 and 2, and new spark plugs all round. My local garage, a VW specialist who I can't praise highly enough, only charged £35 for labour all in so I'm very pleased with that. Two Volvo specialists wanted between £60-100 for diagnosis alone!
