Not got time to read the whole threas but as a father-to-be I took a stroll into Mothercare the other day and was aghast at the cost of nappies, noting mothercare are probably more expensive than supermarkets. Can I save myself a few quid by buying them in bulk at Costco?
Nappies!Question for Mumsnet surely?
Merely trying to mitigate the spend on necessary-but-expensive stuff, so I have more £££'s to spend on unnecessary-but-far-more-expensive toys for the boy ... it's the PH way!

Also buying in bulk any outer wraps that you havent opened you can exchange for the next size up for free.
I have a trade membership due to being a (powerfully built etc) Director.
However, can't you get a card through a company you work for if they apply for you? I know this won't work for larger companies but if you can speak to your MD openly, could they not help you out?
My favourites from Costco are the large boxes of Poppers Cream Cheese Jalapeños.

No - If you go to costco for a 2 quid saving on nappies. you'll spend 100 quid on 'stuff'. this doesnt happen in a supermarket.Purity14 said:

Is it possible for an everyday person to join? Or do I have to run my own business?
No, not an everyday person.I was eligible one year and then not the next.
I don't own a ltd company, and I am not on the 'list' - Cant remember how I got one in the first place!
When we started our business I made up a letterhead and took an invoice for some printer cartridges I'd bought online. I could have qualified for non-trade membership other ways, but wanted to be able to go in before mid-day.

Unless you let it lapse, your membership just continues - they don't recheck.

How solid is this check? When we started our business I made up a letterhead and took an invoice for some printer cartridges I'd bought online. I could have qualified for non-trade membership other ways, but wanted to be able to go in before mid-day.
I could easily bullst that I work in education which seems to be allowed...
My contract I work provides soft + hard fm to about 20 schools and is part of the education sector within the company I work for.
I let my membership lapse a couple of years ago for a month or so and they didn't check my eligibility. I've just left the forces after 16 years so technically I fall under the veterans category so I'm eligible for membership for life.
As sad as it sounds, I was out in California a couple of weeks ago on a work trip and on one of the evenings, I had a wander around the local Costco and bought some small things which were ridiculously cheap even in comparison to local prices in California.

[Mumsnet] They're dirt cheap. Around 200 Pampers Size 3 for £14. We stock up every time for our miniature pooping machine. Wetwipes aren't particularly great value in there I've found. [/Mumsnet]Dan_1981 said:
£30 to join as a private member.
Is it really much cheaper than supermarkets with their promos etc?
How long to recoup £30?
I bought a Dualit coffee machine in Costco on my first visit for £120. The exact same machine in John Lewis was £180. It can be ridiculously cheap if you buy in bulk - I never buy baked beans or tinned chopped tomatoes from anywhere else now as it is so much cheaper. The Kirkland (Costco's own brand) stuff is excellent quality as well.Is it really much cheaper than supermarkets with their promos etc?

When I did it the guy glanced at the docs and said they looked OK. The company was real though so if they had checked it would show as valid.I could easily bullst that I work in education which seems to be allowed...

You can apply online - on the Individual Member application you could put Education Employee and see what happens https://members.costco.co.uk/MemberSignupsUI/Enter...
You have to take Employee ID Card or Payslip to the local store to get the card (and something, like a utility bill, for proof of your own address).
You could do the same for trade membership, I guess (still also need proof of own address). The 3 directors of our company are all members separately, so they don't query duplications.
I suppose, like anything else, some staff couldn't care less and others will be awkward about it.

Would rather not pay the £30 online and find I can't join...
