With the ever increasing RRP of new watches and the likes of a new steel Submariner being almost £6k, it got me thinking about watches that could genuinely be described as good "value" in terms of their quality and/or functionality. I'm struggling to think of many that are better than one of these: It's "only" £2k or so new and can be picked up 2nd hand for much less, yet it's a beautifully made watch with a number of complications including moonphase and day/month indicator. True it's not got an in house movement and it's not a perpetual calendar or such like as the appearance would suggest, but it's a great watch nonetheless. It's very comfortable to wear, comes on a decent quality croc strap with folding clasp and does a good job of being an every day and dress watch at the same time. With an imaginary budget of say £2k new, can anyone else think of a better suggestion?

Longines Hydroconquest chrono?
Fortis B42 Pilot Chrono?
Various Oris models?
£2k gives a lot of choice if buying used, however!

Not to mention the price of a Seamaster or PO these days I'd almost agree with the Weasel... but I'd say the regular Longines Hydroconquest.

If you like a complication or three, that Longines Master is a hard watch to beat!

The larger automatic Hydroconquest is pretty much a thread closer. At £600-£700-odd for a quality watch is difficult to beat.

I think I might be missing the point Most watches depreciate like cars. From new to 2nd hand is a big jump, and then it evens out a bit.

Podie said: Agreed. Boom! Hydro Conquest is nice, but doesn't have anywhere near the functionality or complications of the Master Collection? That's what I was getting at, value for money not just in terms of it being cheap, but doing a lot for the cash.

Either way, looks like Longines are winning the value prize either way...

Tissot Vistodate. I think is a amazing value for money new.
I doubt a used Planet Ocean that will be below £2k will depreciate much.

go to the 50 quid watch thread Some on the £50 watch section certainly aren't good value for money. Don't have to look much further than a Seiko 5.
