Having had an mri scan whick showed up one of my kidneys was a bit smaller than the other, i had i radioactive tracer injected an had a scan done on my kidneys to detect the amount of radiation in them to deturmine home much they are working.

Turns out that one of them ia doing 17% while the other is doing 83%.

I asked the nurse if i should stop drinking an all i
She said was the goverment says you shouldnt drink more than 25 units a week.

Not alot of help really, so i ask PH. Should i stop drinkinf or at least cut it down to special occations or not bother cutting down an carry on drinking normally. The kidney trouble isnt down to drinking btw

I'm waiting on word from my tests as well concerning my Kidneys and I was told that 24 units is actually way to much.

I had a scan for something else last year and they found I only have one kidney. One probably didn't develop when I was young and the one I have got is about twice the normal size. Apparently it's quite common, about 1 in 1300 people only have one and it's nothing to worry about.

'Smoking and drinking too much alcohol means that your kidneys have to work harder to remove toxins from your blood. Try to stop smoking completely and limit yourself to two small drinks a day for a man and one small drink a day for a woman.'
