One of our cats suffers from bad flare up of dermatits which seem to be getting more frequent and worse. She has been on medrone when it's bad but obviously it has it's side effects etc.

Our vet has suggested try Atopica as they now make it for cats too which we are planning on get a prescription for at her check up this week.

Just wondered if anyone had/does use it on their Cat or Dog and have you had any success.

We used it some time back when it was new to the market for an intermittent skin problem that was becoming resistant to other treatments on our eldest dog. The skin around the lips/nose/eyes where it changed from black skin to hairy skin would break up and bleed.

It did work - starting with one pill per day then dropping to a couple a week. Very expensive back then but I understand prices have dropped (ie - about £4 per pill).

Might be worth a try, but there are lots of things around. Our vets are doing a lot of work with ''human'' creams with positive results. Each problem varies.

Our vet said they would give us a prescription to buy it only as they are very expensive (typical vet) so works out at £56 for 2 months worth apparently. Seems like an absolute bargain to me if it gets it under control.

My lab has been using it for 3 years - still has the odd flare up but better than he was - glad pet plan are picking up the bill as he gets 2 pills per day

A Blood test is also req every 6 months as well as check up every 3

Give it a try, I tried it on my dog but unfortunately it do not work for us.£56 for 2 mouths isn't that bad as my dog is just over 10 stone and 1 months supply was £320!

Well, we have just started using this.

Update to my Itchy dog thread,

Looks like Petplan are covering it, but I'm more concerned about the long term life shortening effects on my dog.
