It was going so well - and then he said Union Jack.
Congratulations, Lewis. Well done.
What is wrong with the term Union Jack? It is the a Union JackCongratulations, Lewis. Well done.
A Jack is a Flag flown only on the Jack Staff (Wiki). Union Flag is the correct term, but in common usage they are interchangeable.

Eh??
Is ballroom competition any less competitive than snooker, darts or golf? I don't know, but I do know that the professional dancers are a damn sight closer to being athletes than some of the sports featured in SPOTY and the chances of injury far higher.

She didn't actually suffer that injury when dancing though.
Oops, fair enough.I imagine injury plays a significant part of their professional life though, given what they put their bodies through.
I take the point re er, points though, and the scoring of. Other sports operate in a similar method of scoring as dancing though - and let's not forget that F1 has a points scoring system - but not a stable system that stands in place for long and is currently being changed on an annual basis.
To save any argument next year the contenders should have to do the other 9 sports and the overall winner of that wins, seems fair It would be like Superstars.
OK, having a partially sighted skier driving an F1 car might be a bit dodgy, but I'm sure there's a solution. Lewis doing dressage would be fun to watch as well!

But the hundreds of golfers Rory beat this year all had equally nice sticks to his.
The golf equivalent of Formula 1 is Rory becoming World No.1 in a year that only he and Phil Mickelson were allowed to carry a putter.
The only think Lewis has proven this year is that he's a smidge better than Nico Rosberg. He could be 1% behind the entire rest of the grid and it wouldn't have mattered, because his 'sticks' were 3% better than everyone else's.
Sadly the structure of F1 means we don't really have a clue who is the best.
That is well put. Look at what happened to Vettel this year when his car wasn't quite as competitive. The golf equivalent of Formula 1 is Rory becoming World No.1 in a year that only he and Phil Mickelson were allowed to carry a putter.

The one that really surprised me was Jo Pavey....winning a European gold in Atheltics is a long way from the pinnacle of the sport. I'd say 80% of that list achieved more in their sports than she did. But hey it's about "personality".

Got to be Lewis this year
After the last 3 races, he's shown himself to be a very poor looser and sportsman, hell today in the podium interview he couldn't bring himself to congratulate Rosberg on a fair win, and again blamed the team for not letting him do it his way, even though any half fan could see it wouldn't have worked. Utterly perplexing.Of ALL sports, becoming F1 World Champion is probably the easiest, once you're in the running. Perhaps dressage pips it.
First of all, only half your competitors are good enough to be there on merit.
To be in the running, you have to be in the best car, which is (almost completely) not down to you, apart from being hired in a lucky year.
Then, once you ARE in the running, you only have 1 guy to beat.
Murray won't win it but the GB Davis Cup team are a stick on for the team prize.
Lewis is a cretin with the personality of a spoilt 15 year old so dunno why he'd be anywhere near it. Other than him I couldn't care less tbh, it's a nonsense prize and a nonsense, overdone, overpromoted event.
