Went in to the docs a couple of weeks ago for my 40 year MOT. Basically everything seems good but the nurse who did the check picked up that I had an irregular heart beat and suggested I booked in to the docs to get it check. Following week at the doctors appointment they said my heart beat wasn't irregular, just slow and suggested I needed an ECG scan to check. So last week I had ECG scan, again with the nurse who confirmed it was slow so has now booked me back in with the doctor again to discuss this.

So back and forth to the docs with various conflicting reports and not really getting anywhere. When I go in again I think I'll ask to be passed to private Bupa cover to get checked properly. I did buy a heart rate monitor and at rest it's approx 48 bpm which if I google it does seem slow (average adult is between 60 and 100 bpm). I've never noticed any loss of breath or dizzy/fainting symptons so I'm hoping all ok.

Anyone else with slow heart rate?

yup. I think the average must be based upon someone sitting around all day stuffing their face with pies. If you arent fainting all over the place, dont worry.

Exactly. I'd be happy with this, as it surely means the heart doesn't even get out of 1st gear to support you. Having said that, do you exercise a lot? How's your weight?

Mine's 39-43 when chilled out. Not unusual if you are in ok shape. (had an op last year and they noted "athlete" on the chart in case a nurse thought I was dying biggrin)

40 for me first thing in the morning, up to around 45 at rest during the day - wouldn't worry yourself about it.

Well, hold on now. You do have bradycardia... Are you a sportsman or fitness freak? Do you do a lot of exercise like cycling or rowing? If not there's going to be another reason for it.

My resting heart rate is also sub 50. I used to be a competitive cyclist until an injury 12 years or so ago though, and now I like a pie or two. I think the old ticker benefitted from years of sport and hopefully it's all normal.

I currently have arrhythmia and am on a waiting list for an operation to fix it. Mine had gone down to 39-45 at times (130-180 at others) and it's not because I'm any sort of athlete. Let them do some tests at least but obviously it's not bothering you like mine does me!
