Just bought a new petrol merc and some problems have arisen which merc say will be sorted when they update the cars software...which ironically they gave me the same lip service when I bought my last..

1. problems with iphone, comand lists contact by surname first...the mb solution put all your cristian names in your phone where the surname should be ...errr but that feks up my phone then.

2. Full beam cannot be held on,, this is for safety reasons, not very safe when in excess of 80mph at night, you can travel faster than the zenons.

3. The Eco mode(engine cut out)is on by default, you can push a button and turn it off each time to stop the engine continually cutting off..but you cannot turn it off all the time-MB say they are working on it..

All in all very disappointing, anyone known MB to do software updates, cause this time I'm going to remember when I change in future it won't just be the car but the make as well!

The ECO thing drives me fecking bananas - what a bag of st! It will be on by default to make the car technically meet emissions limits.

My personal bugbear - I appear to have only the option for sidelights or auto lights. No control over what the hell is going on. Go under some dense trees and the blasted car switches on the headlights confused

Totally agree!! These two issues are really starting to niggle me with my car.

You can pull the lever for a flash of full beam, push it to put full beam on all the time..If you have intelligent lighting an A will appear on the dash and the light auto dip for you when the sensors pick up another car..Works pretty well but does get fooled alot by big reflective signs.
As for the Eco mode it is hardly a pain to lift your hand to press the button to switch it of.. It took me about a week to remember to do it every time I start the car..
The command is a pain in the arse..Better than it was but still not that good with iPhones

mine is only 2 weeks old=and does not allow to push lever forward, only hold the lever back as if permanently flashing...

Not very satisfactory.

I find that factory specs for the light alignment are very conservative, dangerously so. You may wish to adjust them yourself to bring the beams up. This is still not satisfactory, but there you have it. I noted that on a brand new 204, you cannot turn the lights off: you can have the side lights, the dipped beam, or Auto, but not off.

I guess you just have the standard headlights and not the Intelligent lighting system. I thought it was standard on the c class now.
What model do you have?

If you move the light switch to the parking light position it'll turn them off, you do however have to remember to turn it back when you turn the car off otherwise you'll end up with the light on!

Another one!

Run the car too low on fuel and you end up with the engine managenent light on, thus necessitating a visit to MB to reset it. I kid you not.

Got mine reset yesterday - evidently they're getting quite a few of them in! rolleyes

That's utterly rediculous!

I'm keeping a hold of my 07 E class for as long as I can!

Completely agree. I would love to change my facelift C270CDi but some of the things I read terrify me! I think defaulting to E mode for the auto box would annoy me - mine stays in S once set.

I'm going to get jumped on at some point as our car allowance rules say I shouldn't have a car more than 6yrs old and mines nearly 8.

I know lots of people (chauffeurs) who went from W211 to W212 and without exception they all regret it.
Cheaper materials dressed up as "weight saving", noisier engine (even the 350, which is a souped up 250), no "rest" mode in the heater, no secondary visor etc.

I've also had customers say they didn't even realise they were in a Merc after one of my customers said "Can you send a Mercedes next time" hehe

I'm not a fan but do like the coupe looks wise.

Those two engines are completely different. The 250 is a souped up version of the old 2.1L 4 cyl. The 350 is a 3L V6.

That said, I had a W212 courtesy car recently and I was sure the service advisor said it was a 250.

I thought it went quite well and wasn't too noisy for a 4cyl. I was gobsmacked when I opened the bonnet and it was the V6. The car did nothing for me at all - I drove it home and back again, but I couldn't be bothered to take it for a drive.

How low?

I ask as I've run my W212 E Class on fumes on many occasions since getting it, with no issues! I'm talking about the indicator going from 0 miles remaining to the pump symbol, then driving around some more - no engine management light to be seen hehe

I only do this as there isn't actually a filling station on my weekday route, and I hate making a special journey for fuel until I really have to!

I do miss my 2008 W211 for the reasons stated - 'rest' function, double sunvisors, ability to switch lights off completely, lack of stupid 'eco' button!

However, there are other things I love about the W212 - bag hooks in the boot, rear seats that fold flat with the flick of a lever at the tailgate without needing to move the seat bases (they are fixed) or climb into the back, smoothness of the 7G autobox, great iPod and blackberry connectivity through updated COMAND, the COMAND screen sitting at eye level, and so on - it's not all bad.

That said, I hated the W204 I had for 6 months last year and much preferred the W203 I had before!

I'm not sure it is, I thought the 2.1L diesel engines in the W212 E Class are the same newer OM651 (nerd) twin turbo diesels as used in the W204 C Classes also?

Well, yes - but it came from the old 2.1 4cyl. It's substantially changed though - I think even the capacity is slightly different. I'm not up on all the engine type numbers.

Anyway, it's certainly very different to the 350.

So Mercedes did a million miles (or whatever they do) of development road testing all over the globe and in all conditions, and not one tester said "err boss, they've forgotten high beam"?

Seems remarkable...

Genuinely curious. Whats's wrong with the Eco thing? Presumably this is the engine stop/start?

And if you're in an area of low vis like dense overhead trees or a tunnel or whatnot, why on earth wouldn't you want your lights to come on? confused

The lights come on under tree cover!!!

The box starts up in E with the stop/start enabled by default. You get used to switching it off straightaway but it is annoying.

RE: the fuel light - I got the MIL after running it down to a "st, I must find a petrol station" level - something I'd do a few times a year as a rule. No more though.
