Read a good article about these in a friends running magazine today. Was just wondering if anyone on here had any and what they think of them if they have?

Well, I purchased a pair Friday after lengthy discussion eith the shop owner about my dodgy knees.
Am over the moon with them. The shock absorption is something else.

I haven't run for over 4 years die to bad knees, Saturday morning I jogged for 10 minutes on the treadmill almost pain free. I'm hoping as I lose more weight my knees will ease up some more.

Quite like them from that angle!

If you have dodgy knees, you could consider "minimalist" running. My knees aren't what they used to be due to too much exuberance on a skateboard in my twenties but Spartan (tongue out) running seems to be fine for my knees with £7 trainers because of the cushioned landing.

Yeah I did discuss at length with the bloke who owned the shop going to minimalist running, but he really discouraged me from doing it.

Maybe once I've lost some more weight I'll reconsider.

Try walking rather than running. I've joined a local walking group and the excess flabbage is certainly coming off.

I do around 20 - 30 miles a week though, and some of these are quite hilly.

I'm currently looking for a new running shoe for my upcoming winter runs and these look really nice. Is that the Cloudrunner or the Cloudsurfer that you've got?

I'm not sure to be honest, I'll check later when I'm home. They're the ones that are recommended for walking and slow jogging.
I do 1 hour a night on the treadmill, after weight training. Incline set to 8.0 pace set to 5.8. Hopefully should my knees continue to get better ill be running properly in no time at all!

I went bare foot at 21 stone and fixed 40 year old bad knees over night

Ran 10 minutes tonight, again almost pain free. Was so actually I felt like crying. Its been a long 4 and a half years. I just pray I can continue to make gains like this with my knees holding up so I can get back into triathlon and fulfil my ironman dream.

I hear you.

Not barefoot myself but a couple of years back moved to a non supportive type shoe and onto the forefoot. Never had a sore knee since and mine were pretty bad.

Next set of running shoes, I'll attempt to get a pair of vibrams. Supposed to be a heck of a lot better doing barefoot style running than traditional with cushioned shoes.

What's so special about On Cloud trainers?

Edit: just had a look of them, they do look really nice and supposed to be really good smile

Just to help you understand things, I did some running on a tread mill in socks the other day and apart from the weird feeling of the rollers underfoot, didn't have any negative experiences. If I'd landed heel first, I'd have been in a lot of pain.

Are these any good for lateral movement, or just running forward?

Yes. Lateral (front to back or visa versa) and shock impact (up and down). I can't rate them enough, I love them.

It seems all they do (that a nike air doest) is reduce the "impact" of forward momentum continuing after the foot touches down. In a barefoot shoe you dont land like that anyway with a shorter stride...so I doubt it would make much difference to someone running as nature intended.
