Purchased a 4m Zodiac from the next door neighbour who's had it in the garage packed up for the last 3 years having used it twice since new! Now I need a motor to stick on the back of it.

It says maximum 20hp which is what I'm looking for but which one is best? It's mainly for tootling down the river Dart but needs to be able to go out of the mouth onto the beaches etc.

Ask the question on www.rib.net - plenty of help there - and Dan can then sell you the engine that's recommended.

For my money I'd be looking at whatever came in lightest - a 2stroke Yamaha would be my favourite.

2 stroke Yamahas are well proven, tried and tested worldwide in numerous commercial operations. Not available new any more though due to emission regs. The Yamaha 15FMH is a very good engine and very light.

Thanks lads, gone against your advice and got myself a Honda BF20...Reasons are it's light (ish) at 48kg and it turned up on my doorstep at a local boat shop as it was just part ex'd against a bigger boat on Saturday..2011 with less than 40hrs on it for what seems like a bargain £950.
