Though I'm not convinced that CT shoes are worth full price?

Can't comment on those, but I have some Tyrwhitt shoes which are fantastic: Arthur wholecut. Extremely happy with them.
Pretty confident they're made by Loake.

Just received a pair of Loake Cannon double monks.
At first glance don't seem as well made, and leather not as high quality/thick as my other Church's or Crockett & Jones, but then they cost 2/3rds of the price.

Not sure I love them. I would have preferred them slightly narrower and "pointier".
Any suggestions?
Of all the Loakes, the Cannon is one that has really caught my eye.

Have you posted a pic of your Church's and C&J yet? I'm heading back to Northampton soon and I'm in need of some inspiration.

I suspect Kurt Geiger is a well known high street brand so recognizable to many. Many of the Northampton made shoes are rarely seen in the high street shops so no surprize they're not so well known.
I was wearing some nice Cheaney brogues the other day - someone commented on my 'nice socks'. They're branded Hugo Boss so perceived to be good. They were a gift this Christmas and are not wearing well.

Cool story bro getmecoat
Very true bro smile I guess for most it's a brand thing rather than a quality thing.

In other news I drive past Northampton and Bicester every other week at the moment and a new job is on the cards so an excuse for a new pair of work shoes. I'm thinking a pair of Church's I'd heard it's better to go to Bicester than the factory. Does anyone know if that's the case?

My last trip to Becester resulted in two pairs!

Although in my experience, it can be pot luck re what they have in....

Cheers for that. I'll pay a visit then as its only a couple of miles detour. Has been about 3-4 years since I've been shopping at Bicester. Hopefully I can find something similar to a church consul at a good price.

If you get to that stage are they salvageable if you use a shoe thingy? I've painfully not properly stored my 'decent' shoes and I fear I've killed them!

It's not ideal, but I bet you can make them look a whole lot better by using shoe trees. They might still have more creases on the surface but at least the shape would be right.

I'd be interested in seeing your before and after shots if you get some (cedar wood) shoe trees.

Today I'm happy man. Al tough I'm still waiting for my black wax polish.

Hey Calza, how are you getting on with these two pairs?

To my shame, those black Church Eastcote were going to be my new daily wear work shoes but I haven't got around to wearing them yet! On the rare occasions that I have tried them on, I am finding the soft leather lining seems to really grip onto my socks which pull them tight over my toes when I slip my foot in. Do you find this too?

I have some other Church's from the same last which doesn't cause the same issue.

Rather pleased with this purchase yesterday.

If you look closely, the uppers are not all the same colour, slightly blemished. To me it doesn't really matter, since that part will be covered by a trouser leg anyway, but at £100 the pair instead of £220 I care even less!

Missed delivery yesterday as I was at work. Arrived this morning, probably not worth full price, but OK for what I paid.
Can't fault CT service.

You know the score - pics please!

lowdrag What make/model are those boots? If the slight discolouration starts to annoy you, a couple of coats of some Saphir cream polish of the right tan shade would smooth out the colour. The Saphir creams have lots of pigment in and can help to re colour - especially is you pick up any scratches or scuffs.

A set very similar to these arrived this week. The ones I ordered, and I can't remember if it was this same vendor or not, are made from red cedar, and are a rather fetching subtle pinky colour.

They smell great, are a good (and snug) fit. Quality seems excellent.

Thanks for that, but the "patinated" look pleases me frankly. They are the Loake Thirsk by the way, and if anyone wants a pair of size 11 at the same price I can give you the shop details. I think he said he only had size 11 left, but maybe not.

Very well thanks. They are my daily's on rotation and I couldn't be happier!

The Church's are a cut above the Loake's, but for double the RRP you'd expect that. They just feel like a superb fit, almost like the last was moulded on my foot.

Nope, no issue with that to be honest - I'd have said it was quite slippy inside. Maybe you have higher traction socks than me? biggrin

Nice work.

I wore mine outside for the first time today. I also find them an excellent fit once I have shoe-horned my foot in. I literally get a *Schuuuurrrppp* of air rush as I slip them on! They have a thin layer of padding inside which seem to make that perfect fit.

They really do feel like a high quality shoe though and the shape looks like a great blend between traditional rounded toe with a slightly elongated last. I didn't seem to pick up many creases from my first wear either unlike some of my cheaper Barkers.
